Once the dust had settled a month ago, the American map had changed from four years back, yet was still the same in many ways. One cannot avoid noticing the midwest looked much like the coasts, but the plains, big sky and south, sans Virginia and North Carolina, were still quite red. Then there stood Florida, always desired, and especially since 2000. Like other southern and western states with rapid population increases, the Sunshine State is perpetually changing "colors," thus difficult for either party to consistently and confidently claim.

I reside just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and the coast of North Carolina and those barrier Islands along our coast which made for wonderful hiding places for the pirates of yesteryear. The Coast of North Carolina is drenched in folklore about pirates. The infamous Blackbeard was captured here and decapitated. The sports teams of at least one noted university here are named "The Pirates." So, we Tar Heels have a colorful history of interaction with pirates as does our sister state to the south. The MsM is telling us that Obama fully intends to push for socialized medicine early in his first year as President. Why not? Our financial institutions have already been socialized (nationalized, whichever you prefer). Our auto Industry looks, for all the world, as if they are ready to become nationalized, as well. Now healthcare, which accounts for one-seventh of the US economy, is about to be the next huge segment of the American economy to be taken over by the government. 1. Four years of high-school Latin would dramatically arrest the decline in American education. In particular, such instruction would do more for minority youths than all the ‘role model’ diversity sermons on Harriet Tubman, Malcolm X, Montezuma, and Caesar Chavez put together. Nothing so enriches the vocabulary, so instructs about English grammar and syntax, so creates a discipline of the mind, an elegance of expression, and serves as a gateway to the thinking and values of Western civilization as mastery of a page of Virgil or Livy (except perhaps Sophocles’s Antigone in Greek or Thucydides’ dialogue at Melos).

A Scottish judge recently bent the law to benefit a polygamous household. The case involved a Muslim male who drove 64 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone – usually grounds for an automatic loss of one's driving license. The defendant's lawyer explained his client's need to speed: "He has one wife in Motherwell and another in Glasgow and sleeps with one one night and stays with the other the next on an alternate basis. Without his driving licence he would be unable to do this on a regular basis." Sympathetic to the polygamist's plight, the judge permitted him to retain his license.

Democrats may well have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. If this happens, there will be no practical checks upon President Obama implementing his political agenda. Our governmental system was created to limit political power by creating checks and balances. Congress was intended to be able to check the president, the states were intended to be able to check the federal government, and the courts were intended to be an impartial referee, calling penalties when one part of the government or another exceeded its authority.

The enemies we face in America cannot be defeated by good arguments alone (there are no good arguments to support what they believe.) This fact is easier to understand when we are fighting radical Islam overseas. Hatred of Jews and Christians is not logical but rather theological. Fanatics who turn to religious texts which enjoin the faithful to deceive, to despoil, and to dominate the unbeliever view arguments as simply another weapon to weaken the enemy.
