Democrats are NOT Supporting our Troops!
By Doug Hagin (12/09/05)
Stop me if you have heard this one before. “Oh yes we support the troops BUT…..” Sounds familiar doesn’t it. How many Democrats have made such a proclamation of their undying and total support of America’s armed forces? Moreover, how many times has their declaration of support been immediately followed by a but? How many times have they sworn their support and then attacked the mission the troops are on?
You could likely count and count and re-count the times, but really now this is not Palm Beach, Florida. It is very easy to see that the Democrats have been quite vocal in their support for the troops. It is also quite painfully obvious they are saying one thing while doing something entirely different.
Sorry Democrats, but you cannot at once support the troops and bash the war they fight as illegal, immoral, or unjust. You cannot realistically say you support our service men and women, and say they are faili! ng and doomed to defeat at the same time.
Why not try a new approach Democrats? Try being honest for a day or two. Stop talking one talk and walking another for once. Frankly, America is growing very weary of your phony words. Frankly, our troops are deserving of real support instead of the fallacious support Democrats claim to give them.
So again Democrats, here is your chance to just admit what your party is really feeling about the war in Iraq, and about the United States military. The cold, hard, ugly fact is that the Democratic leadership wants our troops to fail! Now that is a terrible charge to level I know. It is, however, a charge that has become very legitimate.
Consider some of the commentary by some of the leaders of the Democratic Party about our troops. Not content with simply sniping at the war our armed forces are fighting, these people have begun to openly attack our troops. A more sickening, and despicable activity by any Unite! d States Senator or Representative I cannot think of.
Yet their words speak very loudly and are, in fact, unmistakable. Let us review the statements Rep. John Murtha has made in recent weeks about our troops. Murtha, a decorated Vietnam War hero has called for our troops to be withdrawn from Iraq. Clearly this would be a mistake strategically, but Murtha has not stopped at simply encouraging a cut and run policy.
Speaking to a group of community and business leaders in Latrobe, Pennsylvania Murtha said our Army is “broken, worn out” and “living hand to mouth”. Got that? He is saying our troops are done in, defeated, and cannot finish their job. In truth, he is saying our troops are just a bunch of failures. Excuse me Rep. Murtha, but those comments are dead wrong, classless, and frankly, in my estimation grounds for you to resign and let a patriotic American to take your place! You might be a war hero, but that does not grant you immunity from treasonous rema! rks that hurt our troops. You of all people should know better than to stab America’s defenders in the back! Yes, you served this nation in war and acquitted yourself I heroic fashion, but so did Benedict Arnold at one time!
Let us move on to John “I was in Vietnam you know” Kerry. On “Face the Nation”; Kerry made the following charge against our armed forces. "And there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children, you know, women, breaking sort of the customs of the – of – the historical customs, religious customs," Kerry said Sunday. "Whether you like it or not ... Iraqis should be doing that."
So our troops are “terrorizing” children and women according to Senator Kerry. Is this his way of fight for and supporting our troops? Somehow, it is a tough buy to believe he supports these brave soldiers when he levels such asinine and gutless ! charges against them isn’t it.
Of course, we all remember good old Senator Kennedy saying our troops were part of the problem in Iraq do not we. We also remember him accusing this country of reopening the terrible torture facilities in Iraq and continuing Saddam Hussein’s tactics. Sorry Teddy, but that is NOT supporting our armed forces.
Then, naturally, we have to hear from Howling Howard Dean, the current head of the Democratic National Committee. Dean recently took the time on a San Antonio radio station WOIA to offer his version of “support” for our troops. “The idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong," Dean predicted on WOIA.
Dean continued his “support” with these comments-"I've seen this before in my life. This is the same situation we had in Vietnam," said Dean. "Everybody then kept saying, 'just another year, just stay the course, we'll! have a victory.' Well, we didn't have a victory, and this policy cost the lives of an additional 25,000 troops because we were too stubborn to recognize what was happening."
There you go. Everything always goes back to Vietnam for Democrats doesn’t it? They are obsessed with Vietnam. They are always predicting defeat for our military. They always haul out the Vietnam comparisons and perpetually throw out their second favorite word “quagmire” whenever this nation’s soldiers go into action.
Well for one, I have had enough! It is time the people of this nation to demand that such treasonous attacks on our troops who are fighting in Iraq stop! Their constituents should immediately recall any Senator or Representative who engages in such cowardly attacks. Our troops and we deserve leaders who will support them, instead of cheering for their defeat!
