Christians Push Back on CHRISTmas
By James Bowden (12/16/05)
Most Americans, especially Southerners and Westerners, just want government to leave them alone. Government should do the few things it's supposed to do well and not bother people's families as they live life. And, most Americans are Christians. That 85% of the Nation consists of self-professing Christians hold to very, individualized definitions of religious faith. Their Christianity is personal. So, the daily drip of political issues for most folks is like an unseen leak in the bathroom. The water flows until it gathers at the lowest point and builds to a breakthrough. Likewise, every day's political issues gather until they become the crisis of the times. The war against CHRISTmas became the problem average people can't ignore this year.
Libertarian Bill O'Reilly of the Fox Network champions in the mainstream media what a half-dozen or more clergy and Christian activist leaders advocate in their newsletters and websites. The new level of attention really demonstrates the power of Main Stream Media (MSM) TV. What a giant megaphone.
This year more Christians are pushing back on CHRISTmas. Finally. So much of what has gone wrong with America since the early 60s outbreak of ACW II has happened because modern Pagans, Liberal Human Secularists, pushed and no one pushed back. The Evangelicals and some devout Catholics whined. The sissy Christian old line Protestants and cafeteria Catholics approved of any liberal nonsense with their own apologetics for totalitarianism of the day.
Yet, the PC bullying, the tyranny of the tiny minority, to not call CHRISTmas, 'CHRISTmas', like the sagging drywall of the big plumbing leak, can't be avoided. Or denied. The truth will out, even with the MSM (minus Fox and AM talk radio) bleating Pagan homilies. Most Americans get it. There's a war on CHRISTmas. Actually, there is a war on CHRISTianity.
The arguments of separation of state, inclusion, offending no one, and diversity for diversity's sake are as barren of life as a graveyard in winter. As empty as Scrooge's heart before the ghostly visits. As vacuous as intellectual integrity, substance, and truth in Liberal 'thinking'.
The Founding Fathers wrote a First Amendment which prohibited the establishment - by Congress only - of an official church, a single Christian sect, for the Federal Government only. Every state had an official, established Christian church for a church-state at the state level. Massachusetts taxed all of its citizens to pay for its official church until the 1830s. Its legislature, appropriately, changed the law. Religious tests for state and local officials existed until the Courts ended them in the 1960s.
The first state to get rid of the established church was Virginia in 1786. But, Liberals would rip a poster of Thomas Jefferson's 'Virginia Statute on Religious Freedom' off the walls, because its begins,
"Well aware that Almighty God hath created the mind free; that all attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burdens, or by civil incapacitations, tend only to beget habits of hypocrisy and meanness, and are a departure from the plan of the Holy Author of our religion, who being Lord both of body and mind."
Some separation of church and state. The same Mr. Jefferson, a Deist, who wrote the phrase 'separation of church and state' in a letter to a Baptist congregation, signed bills for the Federal government to pay for Christian missionaries to the Indians, bought thousands of Bibles for public school textbooks, and attended Christian church services every Sunday inside the U.S. Capitol building.
When the Communist Secular Humanists took over Russia and created the Soviet Union, they got rid of Christmas and put in the Winter Holiday. What is happening in your government schools?
Christians should push back as hard on judicial priest-kings as the late Rosa Parks sat down, defiantly, against Jim Crow. When a black-robed lawyer in Indiana says the legislature may pray, but not in the name of 'Jesus', the Christian legislators ought to find cause to pray openly in the name of Jesus. What can the judge do? If the judge does his worst and orders a bench warrant for arrest, the Governor of Indiana could grant executive clemency within the hour. If elected legislators and executives in the states don't use their full Constitutional powers, then we deserve to be ruled by tyrants.
If We, the People, don't exercise our free speech, then we deserve to lose our freedom. Christians questioning whether to speak, "Merry CHRISTmas" in lovingkindness to honor the birth of their Savior, might remember what Jesus did for them.
