Outrage: Mexico Demands Guaranteed Legal Access!
By Letters To The Editor John W. Lillpop (01/04/06)
In lamenting the death of Guillermo Martinez at the hands of the US Border Patrol last Saturday, Vicente Fox's chief spokesman, Ruben Aguilar, said "only a law that guarantees legal entry can resolve the migratory problem."
Guarantees legal entry? In other words, Mr. Aquilar, you believe the answer is "open borders," so that anyone who wishes to enter America can do so at any time of their choosing, and for whatever purpose? With no monitoring or control by the US government?
Without regard to the wishes of American citizens, or the impact such migrants might have on US homeland security, our economy or culture?
With all due respect, Mr. Aguilar, you are simply not thinking clearly. Perhaps the fact that 15 million of your fellow Mexicans are living in the US illegally has deluded you into believing that our borders and immigration laws do not apply to needy Mexicans? Not so!
Be advised that your fuzzy thinking must be adjusted to conform to the following truth:
The United States is a sovereign nation, operating according to established borders and immigration laws. America's national priorities are based on the needs of AMERICAN CITIZENS, with little or no regard to the needs of Mexican citizens that our third-world neighbors are unwilling or unable to care for.
In addition, the US Congress is working to make our borders more secure and less accessible, including erection of a 700-mile fence at the US-Mexico border. To prevent unlawful and unwarranted intrusions from Mexico!
Thus, any law that "guarantees legal entry" is NOT in the best interests of the American people, and will NOT be codified into US law.
Americans are deeply grateful for the brave and patriotic individuals who serve as Border Patrol Agents. These heroic men and women labor in harm's way every day to protect the lives and property of US citizens. We are confident that the incident involving Guillermo Martinez was handled professionally and appropriately by Border Patrol, given the circumstances involved.
Finally, please tell Vicente Fox and other officials of the Mexican government to look inward for solutions to those "migratory problems." The days when Mexico can simply dump its problems on the US side of the border for American taxpayers to take care of are gone. Forever!
