Spiritual Basis For Ariel Sharon's Stroke?
By Letters To The Editor John W. Lillpop (01/08/06)
Is there a spiritual basis for the near-fatal stroke
that felled Ariel Sharon last week?
Evangelist Pat Robertson thinks so. He asserted that
because control over Gaza was relinquished to the
Palestinians, God punished Sharon with a massive
cerebral hemorrhage.
Ahmed Jibril, a Muslim, also believes that a Higher
Power was involved. He, however, thanked Allah for
the stroke and called it a "gift" to Muslims.
With all due respect to these luminaries, it appears
there may be more mundane forces involved. After all,
Sharon is 77, extremely overweight, and has been under
immense pressure as Israel's leader in Middle-East
politics and war.
Perhaps old age, obesity and work-related stress are
of greater significance to Sharon's health than a
vengeful God or a mean-spirited Allah?
