Conservatives are winning where it counts
By J. James Estrada (02/01/06)
Where was Ted Kennedy during President Bush’s State of the Union speech? Hillary Clinton, of course, was there with a smirk and a roll of the eyes, but where was that old madman Teddy? Could it be he was seeking chiropractic help? On balance, being a brokeback liberal democrat is probably as painful as it looks.
The Oscar’s are turning out to be the equivalent of the Courts for liberals. It’s the only place where they can win. Ironically, on the day the nominees for the Academy Awards were announced, Judge Samuel Alito was confirmed as an Associate Justice to the highest court in the land. That’s what I call winning where it counts.
Also winning where it counts were Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Chronicles of Narnia, King Kong, Chicken Little and Star Wars: Episode III. What makes them winners? They were the box office champs in 2005.
Potter took in $286 million; Chronicles $277 million; Kong $213 million; Chicken Little $133 million; and Star Wars? The third installment (which is actually the 6th installment?) took in the most at $380 million.
The combined figures for the two George Clooney movies which came out last year (and secured nominations from the Academy) took in $72 million. How many nominations did the box office leaders get in the major categories? None.
With Alito taking his seat on the Supreme Court today, the Left is losing its grip on the last branch of government that can advance their causes. If they have to console themselves by awarding movies that most people don’t care to see (because they celebrate those “causes”), let them have their fun.
America will celebrate Oscar night by knowing that we won where it counts. That would be in real life.
