"When did it all change"?
By Ari Kaufman (03/15/06)
The so-called "intellectually superior" liberals of our nation have very little common sense. They seem dumbfounded when former Democrats like me tell them that they are the party of the rich now, they are the racial dividers, that the NAACP and organizations of its ilk are inherently racist and that so-called "peace" organizations are malevolent and traitorous.
History shows that the rich up until 20-30 years ago truly were white, mainly Christians with family money, mildly educated, here in the US for centuries, etc. Now it is the liberals, many of them Jews like my family and friends, who have come in the past 80 years or so, were educated at Berkeley and Columbia, came of age in the 60s and 70s, then became our doctors, lawyers, Hollywood brass and, most importantly, professors. It is simple, yet fascinating; and while the left knows this, they still think the GOP is wealthier and the "party of the rich." How the GOP can be uneducated, rednecks AND rich, elitists, is befuddling but typical
Ben Stein's post-Oscar piece really nails at least the Hollywood issue on the head.
The biggest political and social donations typically come from deep left wing pockets, like Peter Lewis of "Progressive Insurance" who continuously pours in money to elite universities like Princeton. Only George Soros gave more money to left wing groups duri! ng the 2004 election season. For the Democrats, too bad money can't buy the presidency.
As Steven Warshawky notes at The American Thinker website, "the generous support of leftwing philanthropists like Peter Lewis means that Princeton will continue down this depressing path—and there is nothing that conservative alumni (including billionaire Steve Forbes) can do about it."
Interesting, as Princeton like many other top notch ivy and non ivy schools were once seen as part of the Philistine empire. No more, my friends. Not in this "brave new world."
Harvard takes the proverbial cake amongst elite Ivy League schools. The Cambridge institution, once a stalwart of conservative values, has gone awry and farther into the coffers of left-wing politics, culminating with the recent resignation of President Lawrence Summers.
To the modern radicals, mostly rich and "enlightened," Summers dangerously strayed away from Democratic (BIG "D") principles when, according to reports in the Boston Globe and others, "he dared to suggest to Afro-American Studies Professor Cornell West that recording rap albums was not consistent with his scholarly function. He encouraged Harvard to return ROTC to campus, from which it had been expelled in an earlier wave of leftist bullying in 1969, and commended the value of patriotism. He spoke of the problem of grade inflation. And he dared to suggest that anti-Israel agitation, in the abse! nce of comparable agitation over the same issues existing in other countries, smelled of anti-Semitism."
How dare he!
You can read how many alumni of the "old school" Harvard feel, and I doubt they are driving pick-up trucks, at least not in 2006.
{Forgive me, but as a Jewish Conservative, for purposes of my ongoing thesis, I will often be referring to the Jewish folks as the wealthy elites.}
Many of my friends and family, who have children that are academically able (with parental assistance and connections far too often) to achieve acceptance into a top-tier school, Ivy or otherwise, will still check to see how many Jews there are at said school. Further, if they send their kids to a Midwestern school of "academic distinction," such as the Universities of Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana or southern stalwa! rts like Emory, Washington U of Saint Louis, Duke or Tulane, the arrogant parents will be sure to steer their children away from the middle American Christians (who occupy smaller and smaller percentages of enrollment each year) and toward the Jewish students on campus, or at least the wealthy kids. The University of Michigan, with a humongous population of ostentatious Long Islanders, even had the audacity to unofficially fill one dorm with its New York contingent, since the rest of the campus could not deal with the attitudes of superiority emanating from these kids.
These secular elitists could care less if Josh or Rachel is going to be surrounded by anti-Semitic Muslims or radical professors at Michigan and Duke, just so long as the middle class religious Christians don't interfere and attempt to bring Jesus into their lives. The priorities of these pseudo-intellectuals are unbelievably flawed. But they have the money, the degrees and the pedigree, so why should they listen to me, you or reason?
But hypocrisy overcomes their half-hearted intentions. These people honestly rarely read or even know who Dennis Prager is, or are cognizant of the fact that President Bush received 30% of the Jewish vote in 2004, a record high for a Republican. There are "9/11 Conservatives," like me and my father (a former baby boomer who became part of the counter culture in the 60s, but also matured away from it in the 80s), who prioritize the security of our country and Israel over the security of accused terrorists, the Koran and our nightly conversation with Aunt Mabel.
Likely, they also haven't read my writing partner's recent Front Page Magazine piece, the ethos of which can be summarized thus forth:
"It is tragic that so many Jewish parents would take out a second mortgage on the house to send their children to universities hostile to Israel (I haven't even mentioned the divestment campaigns) but never even think about allowing them to go on a trip to Israel. After all, it is just too dangerous. I can't count the number of times I've heard parents say "if only all that stuff wasn't happening over there. I don't want you to get killed." If on! ly they knew that Khaled Abu Toameh's friends are saying the same thing about what is going on right over here."
My dad visited Israel in 2004, and felt safer there than in the streets of Los Angeles or San Francisco.
And for those Jewish Democrats who are acutely aware of the slow transfer of many sagacious Jews to the right, most fearfully lament much as my friend did, "this president has all these dumb Jew brainwashed that he is their friend. But he (Bush) is a Christian. He loves Jesus and wants to make Christianity the national religion, converting us all."
As my girlfriend and I concluded our California adventure along the multi-million dollar oceanfront homes in exclusive, 100% white Mendocino this past Sunday, we scoffed at the art galleries, organic fudge shops and "peace and love" motif stores. The most egregious had a huge black t-shirt with four rifle-toting "Native Americans" and a slogan emblazoned upon it, reading:
The REAL Homeland Security: Fighting Terrorism since 1492.
This exercise is self-loathing is shameful, and as we drove just eight miles north to the military town of Fort Bragg for a reasonably-priced meal, I couldn't help but pity the fools in Mendocino who have no idea what it means to live in the "real world." I hope a military person from Fort Bragg, who has no money for yoga lessons or soy milk, and is yet fighting to keep these scoundrels safe in their hate-f! illed world, goes down there and explains to the them how truly offensive that t-shirt is. After all, the Mendocino aristocracy will never go north, lest they turn around once they see the "jingoists" and their American flags waving...in America, no less.
How dare they, indeed.
