Internet Evangelism Day Just Around the Corner
By Jeremy Reynalds (03/21/06)
This year’s Internet Evangelism Day is coming up fast.
Scheduled for May 7, Internet Evangelism Day (IED) will bring together individuals, churches, denominations and ministries throughout the world to explore and focus on the great potential offered by the Internet for sharing Christ online.
“What better way to engage today's culture with Christ's message than through the Internet? The 2005 Internet Evangelism Day successfully laid the foundation for many more, as we share effective tools and methods for online evangelism. I encourage any ministry that has this type of interest to become an active participant right away,” commented Gary McClure of LifeWay in a news release from the Internet Evangelism Day organization.
Other Christian leaders are also asking churches to learn more about the potential of the Web to communicate the Gospel.
IED was initiated by the Internet Evangelism Coalition, an umbrella group of major organizations involved in web ministry.
The IE Day website contains many resources to help Christians use the Internet to touch the world. It explains how to build a church website that can reach out into the community, and start an evangelistic blog. There is even a free evangelistic screen saver to download.
The site also offers downloadable resources so that any church or Christian group can easily create an online presence within their services or other meetings. These include a PowerPoint presentation, video clips, music, drama skits, posters, handouts and many other ideas.
Churches who used these materials last year were excited. “I want to thank you for the free resources you have provided through your website. This is a huge help for small churches such as ours,” said Evangel Baptist Church, Sacramento, Calif., in the news release.
“We decided to hold an IE Day because the web is a valuable tool for evangelism, especially targeting Gen-x and younger people,” commented Cohansey Baptist Church in New Jersey in the news release.
The IE Day team members emphasize that Internet evangelism is for anyone, not just “cyber geeks.” “There are many ways to share your faith online, without any technical background at all,” says IE Day Coordinator Tony Whittaker.
