A Day Without Illegals, A Day Without Taxpayer Expense
By Pete Fisher (05/02/06)
So the hordes of illegal immigration supporters march to support the millions of illegal criminals in the nation. They desire to give them a full pardon for their activities, from crossing the borders to the various crimes committed by these same individuals across the country.
They desire to show the rest of us hard hearted, mean spirited Conservatives that it can devastate the economy if we decide to ship them out and enforce our laws. Who will change the sheets on our hotel beds and manicure our lawns? Who will cut our beef and work in what manufacturing jobs are left in America?
And it is all over the news, people singing their tales of woe about how they desire to simply feed their families and make a life for themselves.
When the West was being won after the Civil War, this nation saw a barrage of individuals going to find their fortunes. When they found the terrain too difficult or the gold they ran to pan never appeared, many turned to other ways to feed their families and make a living. Some became bank robbers, some killers for hire, some horse thieves.
Others became gunrunners, some prostitutes, and others robbed wagon trains. They just wanted to make a living after all. Many had families back east that lost their homes to cattle barons or taxation, and they saw an easy way to make a living. Sure it was illegal activity, but they made a living, even if it was illegal activity they resorted to.
I try to picture modern Liberals and Hispanic supporters of illegal immigration sitting before Judge Roy Bean and telling him that their agenda was to allow these criminals to be set free, their criminal pasts wiped out, and they should all be given a chance to take advantage of the American way of life because they were robbed of opportunity wherever it was they came from. I also picture a two for one hanging 5 minutes after they presented their case.
Many articles recently have shown the cost of illegals in this nation is a huge burden to bear for taxpayers. Whether it is the massive cost of patrolling the border, or the costs to locals who end up paying for medical care, the costs are high to this nation. Financially and legally, the dangers present themselves when we allow citizens to bear the burdens of illegal activities while condoning the act of stampeding our borders and lying to officials and employers.
What about the cost of other illegal activities reported by these same people? Theft, rape, assaults, and extra police to keep the public safe in heavily populated areas of illegals once more present a tax burden to those of us who pay taxes to pay for all these services.
Why is it we have those in this nation who support illegal activity simply because it suits their political ideology or their desire for cheap labor? If we allow this to continue we will begin to see a justice system that bends to political and financial pressure instead of what is just for all citizens.
I honestly do have feelings for these people. Would I do the same thing if I were in their place? Possibly I would, especially if it were so easy to get away with. Once the Mexican Government condoned it, it actually almost seemed legal anyway I suppose. And once in this country, the ease of getting a job and healthcare would make it seem as if the American people condoned it as well. However, if we allow people into this country when they break our laws, how can we expect them to respect those laws while here?
Perhaps when these financial statistics arrive after this Million Criminal March, we on this side of the fence calculate how much money was saved in crime prevention, healthcare, assaults, and other crimes as well and compare it to the numbers the supporters of this breach come up with. Calculate how many people are not being flown at our expense to their homelands, how many less people show up in our courthouses.
How many less accidents in the time they spent on the street instead of in cars with no licenses and insurance, and add up the savings from the insurance companies as well. We will see that those numbers add up pretty fast and compared with what some claim the economy will lose, and will tip the scales in favor of the taxpayers who now bear the burden of having them here.
My bet is, if we supposedly lose 50 million dollars in lost revenue, we would gain 100 million dollars in what we save in these other areas. The millions alone in healthcare and insurance loss would probably take half of that, with police enforcement and court costs taking the other half of it.
However, these numbers will not be known, even in one day of illegals not working here and marching in various cities. As any statistician knows, the more data we have, the better the reliability of the numbers.
So I agree with this protest, but as an engineer I would push harder to glean all the data we can and extend this protest over a 12-month period. After all, we would not want to make laws based on 1 data point. And they can go home, get on CNN, and protest all they want against our hardhearted attitudes here in Yankee Land for the next year.
We should do this in a controlled and methodical manner and take 365 days of data to be able to make any legal decisions that affect the taxpayers and the criminals. In the meantime we can all sit back and see how the absence of illegal immigrants actually affect our economy and taxes all year and move all of our welfare recipients into these positions to recoup another chunk of our retirement funds.
It’s a Win-Win situation.
