Iran’s Lion and Sun Party
By John A. Ross (05/11/06)
Revered in Iran and around the world by the Iranian Diaspora for their courage and intellect, the students that are leading the fight to sweep the hated Islamic government from power works hand and glove with the Lion and Sun Party, or, more precise, the Iranian National Secular Party (INSP). Originating from the Student Movement Coordinating Committee for Democracy in Iran (SMCCDI), the Iranian National Secular Party, or Lion and Sun Party, is trusted by patriotic Iranian freedom fighters. Despite competing with devious well-funded Islamic regime supporters, Monarchists, Communists known as the MEK (Mujahedin-e Khalq or Peoples Mujahadeen Organization), separatist Kurds and Diaspora fatigue, the Iranian Lion and Sun Party enjoys widespread acceptance and approval.
For the uninitiated, the Iranian National Secular Party, INSP, vociferously advocates true democracy and promotes an open referendum to determine the form of government that will represent the Iranian people. In addition, the INSP believes that Iran must adopt the Lion and Sun Flag that represented Iran long before the Islamic regime was forced on the Iranian people.
Charlatans and opportunists have used the Islamic regime’s brutality against the Iranian people as a device to fleece well-meaning donors. Many in the Diaspora see little, or nothing, for their seemingly endless request for donations and are experiencing donor fatigue. The National Iranian TV (NITV), historically a key ally of the Lion and Sun Party, recently fell victim to lack of sponsorship confidence and is no longer a resource that can be relied upon. A new alliance must be found that can transmit the Lion and Sun Party’s message to Iran, or resources will be required to acquire their own capability. Lead by Aryo Pirouznia, Iran’s Lion and Sun Party has not accepted money from any U.S. Government agency or department.
Charging into the political morass in Washington, Iran’s Lion and Sun Party recently discovered that it is welcome in the offices of both major parties. Pursued by knowledgeable leaders and 2008 presidential aspirants, Iran’s Lion and Sun Party dances on a very sharp knife-edge to stay free of special interest control and not be manipulated by competitors.
Led by the U.S. and E.U., financial and political sanctions will soon be placed against the Islamic regime for its’ nuclear weapons intransigence. Before the brunt of the U.S. and E.U. sanctions come to bear on the regime and the Iranian people, the Diaspora needs to rally behind the Lion and Sun Party and speak as a unified secular nation and not a bunch of self-serving crybabies.
Predicated upon the heroics demonstrated by Iranian women in Iran, it appears that they will lead the unified secular movement that will ultimately bring down the Islamic despots in Tehran. As such, it is tantamount that Iranians seeking freedom for their country support the Lion and Sun Party’s secular agenda.
