Al Gore – Eco-Expert

With the President’s poll numbers stagnating in the low thirties, the Republican-controlled House poised to stop any Bush-backed illegal immigration amnesty program, and House Speaker Hastert (R-IL) declaring the invincibility of the legislative branch’s members-only club to scrutiny while one of their own is caught with his hand in the cookie jar (actually, a freezer), who will Republicans run for president in 2008? At this moment, that job looks like a suicide mission.
Back in 2000, Republicans had a once in a lifetime chance of pushing a conservative agenda with both houses of Congress in their pocket and a President who seemed willing to follow the cause of conservatism, “compassionate” conservatism, that is. If things go full cycle in November and the GOP takes a beating, any Republican presidential candidate will have big problems in 2008.
Unless…unless Democrats dish up a big helping of Al Gore. You remember Al Gore, don’t you? The guy who held up the results of the 2000 presidential election while tampered voting booths/hanging chads/Supreme Court “stole” the election?
Well he’s back, this time as a tree-hugging, film-making environmentalist and the liberal MSM is taking it all in—hook, line, and sinker—and spitting it back out for political junkies to enjoy. Fresh from his recent appearance at the Cannes Film Festival while promoting “An Inconvenient Truth,” his Power-Point presentation of a movie, the distant drumming of “Al Gore in 2008” has begun. Time magazine reporter Karen Tumulty has described the new Al Gore as “a laptop-wielding Ninja,” while MSNBC’s Brian Unger recently charged that criticism to Gore’s new found eco-expertise is nothing more than the sinister “Swift-boating of Al Gore.”
With the Democratic loons crying that Hillary sold them out with her stance on the Iraq war, Gore screaming that the sky is falling, and maybe an early attempt by Dennis Kucinich to join the presidential race in 2008, I take it all back. The Republicans could probably run that Bush impersonator and still pick-up a mandate.
