Saddam Must Pay
By Gary Aldrich (04/10/03)
U.S. Marines drove into the middle of Baghdad this morning. A group of joyful Iraqis emerged from their hiding places and embraced the battle-hardened Marines. As it became increasingly obvious that there was quiet—no shelling, few bullets flying—the Iraqis turned to the grotesque statue of Saddam that dominated the city square.
They began by spitting on the statue, but finding their courage, they hammered Saddam with their shoes and boots. Using a ladder some climbed to the top and looped a stout rope around the neck. What began as 15 Iraqis bravely inching forward into the light, turned into 1,500 angry citizens trying to wrench down a glaring symbol.
Finally, U.S. troops tied the rope to the back of a tank. As they toppled the statue, the Hard-Left in this country were working overtime to drag us down—to drag down our joy of victory from having rescued millions of oppressed citizens from a tyrannical, murderous Socialistic dictatorship.
Joined by legions of hand-wringing, over-anxious, useful idiots in the media, along with fellow travelers luxuriating in Hollywood, the Hard-Left started insulting the Iraqis on the very first day of their new freedom. “Who’s going to pay for the rebuilding of the Iraqis’ broken buildings,” and “How are they going to pay for it,” became the new cry from the Left.
The implication was clear: The Iraqis are simple-minded children who cannot possibly do anything on their own. We must help them—the U.N. must help them, otherwise, how can they ever rebuild anything?
Let’s put them all on welfare, shall we? Let’s centralize their educational system and give them unions to guarantee their schools will fail like ours have! Let’s legalize drugs and pornography while we’re at it, and then the Iraqis can really know what it’s like to “be free”!
Let’s build strip joints and open bookstores featuring Larry Flynt’s poisonous nude images so that the Iraqis can enjoy the fruits of guilt-free sex. Let’s give them abortion clinics so we can harden the hearts of their women.
Let’s outlaw profiling so that they can never protect themselves from the radical factions of violent terrorists who are even now making a vow to take revenge on those Iraqis who defaced the statue of their beloved Saddam.
And don’t forget to immediately instill in the minds of all citizens political correctness, so the Iraqis will never get too used to free speech.
This will be the Hard-Left’s plan to rebuild Iraq.
I’ve got a better idea. In the words of Patrick Henry, “Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means (oil) which the God of nature hath placed in our power. The millions of people, (25 million Iraqis) armed in the bold cause of liberty, and in such a country (Iraq) as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy (Saddam) can send against us. Besides, Sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destines of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us.”
The United States of America and Great Britain are the friends who have been raised up for Iraq!
Message to the Hard-Left: The money to pay for all of this, and more, has been earned and saved in some distant place. I’m talking about the treasure that Saddam stole from his country and his people. He’s squirreled billions away in banks all around the globe, and that money must be found—will be found—and must be seized. Not a single penny should be kept by any friend or family member of Saddam. The U.S. must uncover these billions and return them to their rightful owners—the citizens of Iraq.
When the damage has been repaired, and when the infrastructure has been restored, the U.S. can then teach the Iraqis how to drill, pump and ship oil. Arabs, already possessing the almost genetic ability to market and barter, will soon turn Iraq into a wealthy, capitalistic democracy ruled by entrepreneurs who are nourished by liberty.
And this is what really concerns the U.N. and the Hard-Left. When George W. Bush ordered troops into Iraq, the Leftists saw the handwriting on the wall: yet another failed socialistic dictatorship is about to bite the dust. These “backward steps,” as they see them, ensure that Socialism and Communism are on the way out. This cannot be good news to those who have longed for an international utopia managed by a New World Order.
Fidel Castro, pack your bags; Hard-Lefties like Tom Daschle and Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton, clear the way—capitalism and democracy will prevail!
If Iraq is looking for a statue to replace the one that’s just been toppled, I’ll run a national campaign to purchase and ship a suitable bronze of Patrick Henry. Freedom has come to Iraq! Let’s all celebrate the birth of yet another democracy – victory is sweet!
