Any Moron Can Raise Government Taxes!
By Gordon Bishop (07/17/06)
Our State and Federal governments spend more money than taxpayers can afford. That's why Uncle Sam and our state governments will implode financially over the next 10 years.
Taxpayers can no longer afford their federal, state, county and local government taxes!
New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, a former tax-and-spend liberal United States Senator, made history this month when he shut down the Garden State’s government for seven days.
This socialist governor even closed the private sector when he shut the doors of Atlantic City’s multi-billion-dollar casinos and hotels operations. “AC,” as we call the big gambling city, sends $2 million a day in the form of taxes to the New Jersey state treasury.
Corzine no longer represents the taxpayers of New Jersey. He represents Big Government, the single largest employer in New Jersey. Meanwhile, more and more businesses and residents are leaving the Garden State for greener pastures in the southern states.
What America needs immediately is a leader with the guts and brains to “downsize” government, not expand the bureaucracies with more and more political hacks that get paid, at least in New Jersey, in six-digit figures. As they say, “To the victor belongs the spoils.”
And those spoils are killing taxpayers, one paycheck at a time.
Corzine’s first order of business as Governor was to increase the state budget by almost $2 billion, creating two new bureaucracies the public can no longer afford.
This excuse of a so-called elected public official raised the sales tax and the income tax for those earning more than $100,000 a year. Corzine has defined “rich” as $100,000. This guy’s nuts – and doesn’t know it.
I’ve had it with New Jersey, my home state where I’ve lived all my life, all 68-plus years. I continue to work because I love what I do as an author, historian and syndicated columnist.
After covering the election of nine governors since I became a reporter/columnist in 1959, I’ve seen our state government expand by more than 35 times in terms of budget costs. My salary has not increased more than 35 times since 1959. If it did, I’d be making $2,450 a week, which I’m not. I began as a “cub reporter” for $70 a week about 48 years ago.
My paycheck has gone up only 20 times. At this rate only the super-rich will be able to survive at the rate of expenditure by municipal, county, state and federal governments.
I’d move out of New Jersey tomorrow, but my wife and I would have to leave behind our two daughters and three granddaughters. Instead, we bite the bullet and live on two pensions and two Social Security payments each month (both of which we paid for over 50 years of working). Thank God we have an investment portfolio, which we’ll have to pay “capital gain” taxes on when we take out that money, by law, when we’re 71 years old.
Because of capital gain taxes, which are illegal because they are not in the United States Constitution, many retired citizens find they can barely get by even with a nice “nest egg.” Government gobbles up everything the working class tries to save for a rainy day. That’s why America’s savings rate is below zero. That’s right – less than ZERO! Thank the tax collectors.
Like two previous liberal-socialist governors – Jim Florio and Jim McGREEVEY, America’s first “gay governor – Jon Corzine will also be a one-term governor.
My only question for taxpaying voters in New Jersey is: “Why do you keep voting for these liberal tax-and-spend Democrat politicians?”
New Jersey doesn’t stand a chance of ever being out of debt. There are 1.8 million registered Democrats, and only 900,000 registered Republicans in New Jersey.
God Bless America.
