Is it Time for the Nuclear Option?
By J. James Estrada (07/27/06)
Just as Imperial Japan worshiped a false god and killed in his name, so do the Islamic fanatics who brutalize innocents throughout the world. Japan was finally stopped from its evil course by the ordered use of an A-bomb by President Harry Truman.
Did Truman suffer sleepless nights of agonized deliberation leading up to that decision? He did. But his decision helped saved thousands of lives, both American and Japanese, and put an end to Japan’s medieval emperor worship. For if the emperor was indeed God, how could he be defeated?
Islamic terrorists kill in the name of their god, so should they be defeated, it could then be concluded that whom they worship is not truly God. That’s why they fight so hard. That’s why they will not stop perhaps and until it is confirmed to them that their god is not who they think he is.
The A-bomb being dropped on two Japanese cities, which hastened Japan’s surrender, exposed the humanity of the emperor and forever destroyed his claim to Godhood. Is it time for a similar demonstration in the face of Islamic fanaticism that would treat their victims as human sacrifices for their “god”?
Now, understandably, this is a controversial point of view. That is, the belief that using nuclear weapons in this war is one way to finally defeat the terrorist enemy. Some might say it will allow for the enemy, should they get their hands on a nuclear bomb, to use it in New York or Washington or some other American city. But here is the crux of the argument; they would not hesitate to use it should they get their hands on one. Wasn’t that the same argument in World War II? The Axis Powers were in a mad rush to develop their own A-bomb and most assuredly would have used it.
During the cold war, mutually assured destruction was assumed to be viable because the parties involved were interested in self-preservation. The current Islamic fanatical enemy, with their suicidal tactics, has proven that they are not.
