Another Bash-America Film From Hollywood
By Jon Alvarez (07/30/03)
Seems there is more anti-American vomit coming out of Hollywood. Jeannette Walls, writing in ''TheScoop'' at MSNBC.com reports that HBO is filming a documentary about perceived civil rights violations suffered by those that spoke out after 9-11. Imagine the material they'd have to work with if the FBI had arrested nineteen Muslim men on Sept. 10th, 2001! The outrage, the condemnation of the evil empire known as America! Who goes through rigorous security scrutiny at the airports today? Muslim males? No, grannies, children, and other potential terrorists!
Hollywood vs. Washington
Hollywood is going up against Washington.
Famed director Sidney Lumet is shooting a film for HBO called ''Strip Search'' that will look into the abuses of people’s civil rights since 9/11, says a source familiar with the project.
Glenn Close, Ellen Barkin, and Maggie Gyllenhaal are among the stars of the show, which will run in three parts and will probably air this fall.
''It’s inspired by real life incidents, examples of a sort of McCarthyism that has existed since the attacks,'' says the insider. ''It’s about people who’ve been punished for saying and thinking things in a country where there’s supposed to be freedom of speech and thought. There’s no doubt that it will be controversial, given the level of emotions on this subject.”
People from around the world are trying to MOVE here? They aren't flocking to Cuba, North Korea, Syria, Iran, China, Russia, Somalia, etc. Yet Hollywood continues to bash America. And they complain that there is a backlash against them? I wonder if the show will go into great detail about who has actually been ''punished for saying and thinking things.'' Who has been arrested? Martin Sheen? Garofalo? Last time I checked, people were still protected by the First Amendment. However, consumer backlash cannot be confused with suppression of Free Speech. We do live in a free market society. We are free to express our displeasure with celebrities and thus not purchase their products.
Will the film be fair and balanced? Will it show how Hollywood's opposition to American actions vs Iraq leading up to the war, which possibly contributed to the lack of U.N. support and thus, brought loss of MORE American lives in Iraq? Did their vocal opposition and activites contribute to Turkey preventing ground forces from invading Iraq from the north, allowing an escape route for Saddam? Will HBO ask average hard-working Americans how they feel about these celebs? We doubt the film will ask any of these questions. But it should.
