The Senate should not increase the minimum wage
By Letters To The Editor David Holcberg (08/02/06)
The Senate should not increase the minimum wage. In fact, it should
scrap it altogether.
The minimum wage is based on the fascist idea that the state should
dictate prices and wages in the market. But the proper function of the state is precisely the opposite: to protect the rights of all individuals to
exercise their judgment and reach voluntary agreements with one another.
A minimum wage coercively imposed on employers and employees violates the rights of both. The only proper way to determine wages is by the voluntary agreement between employers and employees.
