A Trend Of Deception
By Dwight Baker (05/18/03)
Texas House Democrats have finally returned to Austin from their little disappearing stunt in protest of the Republicans request for state redistricting to accurately reflect current voting trends. By not being present and allowing for a quorum in the Texas House of Representatives, several vitally important bills died at midnight on Thursday, such as a balanced budget, more protection for teachers from violent students, bills concerning homeowners insurance in Texas, etc.
Lt. Governor David Dewhurst estimated roughly 233 bills were killed. But that doesn’t seem to matter to these Democrats. They stood on the steps of the Texas Capitol building Friday morning amongst a small cheering crowd with banners and balloons congratulating themselves and laughing it up.
It should now be obvious to everyone that their constituents are not their number one priority, but their own selfish lust for power. They falsely accused the Republicans of attempting a “power grab” when the Texas Constitution allows for the legislature to move for redistricting two years after it’s done following the census. The Democrats have done it before, but apparently they have selective memories. There’s nothing illegal or improper about what the Republicans proposed. But the Dems are still having a hard time believing they’re not the majority anymore after 130 years in Texas.
Texas State Sen. Rodney Ellis said during this week, "We refuse to participate in an inherently unfair process that slams the door of opportunity in the face of Texas voters." What does he think avoiding his job and leaving the state does? There’s nothing patriotic or heroic about throwing a tantrum and ignoring the job your constituents voted for you to do. It’s childish and unethical.
While still in Oklahoma, one of the “Chicken D’s” as they’re now called told Republicans during a press conference “Don’t mess with Texas.” That line is from an ad slogan by the Texas Department of Transportation encouraging Texans to keep trash off the roads. They should have warned us about keeping it out of office. The Eyes of Texas, and the nation, are now upon them and they’re going to turning their back on Texans come election time.

Speaking of questionable ethics by liberals, let’s hear it for the liberal media. The New York Times promoted an inexperienced 27 year old black man, Jayson Blair, who didn’t even graduate from college to its national news beat despite a long history of gross errors and fabricated or plagiarized stories from other news organizations…all in the name of “diversity”. This liberal rag now has one of its prized liberal causes, affirmative action, coming back to bite them in the butt.
This story adds to the deception revealed by CNN’s chief news executive Eason Jordan towards the end of the war with Iraq that they covered up all the gruesome atrocities carried out against Iraqi’s by Saddam Hussein and his henchmen just so they could keep their Baghdad bureau open. They did all this while questioning the Bush administration openly on CNN about the need for war to rid that country of its evil dictator and weapons of mass destruction.
Liberals are getting a lot of bad press these days and the more the better, in my opinion. People are learning that what conservatives have been crowing about all along is turning out to be true. They’re also realizing that the office of President of the United States is once again an honorable and respectable post, manned by a President that says what he means and means what he says.
Liberals are panicking because the American public they thought was so stupid are beginning to open their eyes and see liberals for the deceptive charlatans that they are. I see it in my every day life. In the office where I work is a woman a few months a go I would have tagged as a liberal feminist that naively soaked up whatever CNN fed her as absolute truth. With the events during the war and the behavior of the Democrats since Bush was elected, today she thinks and talks a lot more like I do. She’s done an about face with no influence from me whatsoever, for I’ve purposely avoided talking politics with her. She’s come to these revelations on her own. The truth will set you free, indeed.
Another example came this morning. A local talk show host on KSEV read an essay published in the VERY liberal Houston Chronicle by a 17 year old junior from Memorial High School in Houston named Laura Childers. She reminded us how a representative republic is supposed to work despite Texas Democrats’ contempt for it. It was the most eloquent, intelligent, and convincing argument for our way of government I’ve heard in a long time. U.S. Congressman John Culberson was on the line at the time and he promised to read that into the Congressional Record as soon as he could as well as forward a copy to every Congressman and woman he could.
If a high school kid can figure it out, why can’t liberals?
