It must be time to dust off the HAZMAT suit and prepare for the parity of poisons at the voting booth.
Senator John Kyl, and others, blame the obstructionist Democrats for the109th Congress’ appalling lack of beneficial legislation for the American citizens, while more excitable Republicans warn us that the ascension of Pelosi, Clinton and Conyers guarantees the coming of the anti-Christ. (Just curious- does the Republican failure to overcome the “obstruction” of Democratic minorities in both houses justify their reelection? Is that their campaign strategy? Could the CEO of a company acquire himself a new contract by claiming his repeated failure to show a profit was due to the toughness of the competition?)
Granted, that trio would be revolting enough under normal circumstances, but it’s not a Democratic administration mumbling “war on terror” while refusing to divorce itself from Wahhabi influence five years after 9/11. It’s not a Democratic administration that has given groups with terrorist associations, like the Council on American-Islamic Relations, access to the inner workings of our law enforcement and intelligence communities. It’s not a Democratic administration committed to the dissolution of the American Nation in favor of the Security and Prosperity Partnership, and the displacement of American citizens in favor of illegal aliens. Nor is it a Democratic President whose preoccupation with his own safety necessitated Secret Service investigations into the actions of post-pubescent American boys, while that same not-Democratic President ignores the violence inflicted upon Americans by illegal alien criminals he invited into the country. Those are all part of Republican George Bush’s Presidential legacy.
Further, it wasn’t Pelosi who slipped vaccine liability shield language into a defense-spending bill behind committee member’s backs. That was Frist and Hastert. It wasn’t Pelosi resorting to late night arm-twisting and bribery to push CAFTA through. It wasn’t Pelosi who insisted Congressman William Jefferson (D-Louisiana), a common criminal, be granted immunity from the laws the rest of us must obey. It wasn’t Pelosi who exhibited a strange preoccupation with Indian casinos 850 miles from her congressional district either. Nor was it Pelosi who killed any pre election attempt at immigration reform. Those were the actions of good ol Denny Hastert. Republican.
Abramoff, “The Bridge to Nowhere”, The Khatami visit, “The Gang of 14”, Duke Cunningham, the UAE appeasement, Harriet Miers, Tom DeLay and the White House omissions from the final 911 Commission Report are just a few Republican highlights.
All this while conservatives stand in a corner, click their heels together and repeat “There’s no place like home” over and over again.
After six years of President Bush and his Republicans, I’m not so easily frightened by Democrats.
Republican operatives, politicians and pundits worry that Republican voters might well sit this election out, resulting in catastrophic loses in the House and Senate.
They don’t mean Republican voters of course. Republican loyalists are no less committed to their death grip on power than their Democratic counterparts and no less willing to call lies and deception truth.
Those operatives aren’t worried about the faith-based community who, they claimed, was responsible for their victory in 04 either. Those folks are still part of the flock.
No. After convincing themselves of their invincibility for the past six years, Republicans are worried about those of us condemned to holding our noses and voting Republican because of the inherent toxicity of Democratic candidates. They’re afraid we’re angry.
Unfortunately, for Americans, disgust for the Democratic Party might well eliminate the administering of justice that incumbent Republicans so richly deserve.
No one in their right mind wants a Democrat anywhere near a position that would allow them to dictate national security, military or emergency response policies for the American people. How can one expect fractious and embittered moveon.org Democrats to defend a nation and a people that they have worked so hard to destroy?
One can’t.
But neither can one support a Republican party so addicted to the trappings of power that citizen demands go unheeded, constitutional accountability is ignored and taxpayer monies fund pork projects, business interests and inefficacious government agencies. All without so much as a thought to what we’re leaving our grandchildren.
The Republicans have betrayed us and enriched themselves. They have assured us they would be tireless in a war against state funded terrorists while simultaneously inviting those states to invest in American commerce and real estate. They have mouthed patriotic platitudes while granting illegal alien foreign nationals preferential treatment that is transforming American citizenship into indentured servitude.
This leaves Americans, systematically removed from the National governing process, with a suicide-by-Republican or suicide-by-Democrat choice this November.
Someone has to take some responsibility for what is being done to this nation and it’s citizens. Shouldn’t that someone be a member of the majority party that brought us to our current circumstances? That majority wastes no time in taking credit for the absence of terrorist attacks in the homeland during their watch. (Apparently the SUV murders and maimings, the Jewish center shootings and the murders at LAX, carried out by Muslims angry with Israeli and American foreign policies, don’t qualify as terrorism.)
There has to be an accounting. Republicans have to be shown that all politicians work for, and are answerable to, the American citizen and the Constitution. That’s who they claim to be serving isn’t it?
The American citizen is being afforded a golden opportunity to make this government more responsive and more responsible this November. If we do not avail ourselves of this opportunity, if we do not show these individuals that there is a price to pay for ignoring their duty, we will only hasten our own demise.
Did we think there would never come a time when hard decisions and their unpleasant consequences would have to be endured so as to return the nation to its rightful owners; the citizens?
Well, that time has arrived.
