Yes! A Celebrity Purge!

Oh, but isn’t this going to conjure up images of cattle cars, gas chambers and Stygian vaults of torture where the most outspoken of the celebrity Blame America Firsters spend the very short remainder of their lives shrieking under the truncheons, scalpels and lashes of “specially-recruited” Homeland Security operatives? Won’t so many gleefully declare: “See? Those conservatives and Christians are nothing but fascists and theocrats – no better than the Taliban or al-Qaeda!” - ?
Good. I’d hoped so. From the Roman Emperors to the Nazis, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and beyond, the purge has been a very useful and efficient political instrument…
Lest one take me at my (nevertheless oft-fantasized) word, I am not suggesting a literal purge of celebrities in America, nifty as it may sound.
I’d gone back and forth for a long time regarding Rosie O’Donnell. At one point I thought she was a talented, though brash and risqué comic. I applauded her for her gumption when she appeared on The O’Reilly Factor and publicly called out Hollywood hypocrites who would look good and oh-so-altruistic performing at charity events, but who wouldn’t match the million dollars she wanted to put up for a certain universally-supported cause. Then I thought she was beginning to carry the gay activist line too far, although this came as no surprise.
O’Donnell’s statements on “The View” last week now have me convinced she is just another celebrity dullard made profoundly dangerous only because of her popularity; many will lend credence to her blatherings simply because she is a celebrity. The irresponsible (or perhaps treacherously complicit) television execs who put her there can obviously not escape blame.
For the record, I do acknowledge that O’Donnell’s popularity is nothing resembling its former grotesque glory – and I do thank Heaven for the small miracles.
O’Donnell joining ABC’s “The View” television program was met with great fanfare last month, with the show’s creator Barbara Walters herself confirming that the woman once known as “The Queen of Nice” would be added.
Leaving even her co-hosts sputtering, O’Donnell blurted (I’ve noticed that blurting is part of her syntax) “Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America where we have separation of church and state.” These “radical Christians” remained an obscure, unqualified, unquantified value during the discussion, by the way.
Certainly, the informed are aware that there are factions in America on the extreme Right and far Left who call themselves Christians, but whose ideology (or “faith,” if we must call it that) includes anti-American, separatist, racist, and manifestly misanthropic tenets). Those on the extreme Right fortunately have little or no sway in politics or on public opinion; those on the far Left are another story.
But, as they say, I digress…
When “The View” co-host Joy Behar said that Christians were not trying to impose mass murder, O'Donnell paternalistically countered: “No, but we are bombing innocent people in other countries. True or false?” So, America sucks and we ought just lie down and die?
O’Donnell’s dim-witted, hateful and irresponsible mouthings of course “inadvertently” lump the majority of American Christians into this genocidal, “radical” mystery faction. If we accept the concept of collateral damage (“blowing up innocents”) abroad in order to protect ourselves, then we’re evil. Never mind that such regrettable eventualities are a byproduct of war, and that any nation that intends to survive in war must – must solemnly and soberly consider and accept these facts. Never mind that our enemy intentionally positions civilians in risky places for the explicit purpose of making America appear atrocity-prone in the arena of public relations.
None of that matters to these mollycoddled, dysfunctional self-seekers who were suckled on anti-Americanism. Sheltered, uninformed, immature and unthinking celebrities like O’Donnell who snap the first ‘Sixties aphorism that comes to mind in such instances completely discount the reality of the existing clear and present danger we face.
Their influence is immoderate, and they need to be purged. Not rounded up however, and spirited to labs underneath Virginia and leisurely exterminated, as I said earlier. Inasmuch as Americans are being weaned off of the mainstream media by competition, the free person-to-person exchange of ideas online access provides, and the slow process of coming to grips with the fact that the mainstream media truly is dominated by the far-Left, they also must be led to realize that the cult of celebrity (unique to America, by the way) is an integral and dangerous part of their design. After all, who wants to believe that these truly gifted people who have made them laugh, cry, and occasionally think (thanks to good writers) are essentially the enemy? I certainly don’t.
I didn’t want to believe I had a substance abuse problem either, years ago, but by the grace of God I woke up – or you wouldn’t be reading this right now. Now it’s America’s turn to wake up and purge the cult of celebrity from their reservoir of credible informational and ideological sources – because the type of people who actually carry out the torture scenarios I outlined at the beginning of this column as a matter of course are precisely with whom these fools are siding.
