“Christians” Oppose Partial Birth Abortion Ban
By La Shawn Barber (11/13/03)
The ghastly image of partial birth abortion brings tears to my eyes.
Nurse Brenda Pratt Shafer felt the same way. Ms. Shafer, a witness to the unspeakable procedure, testified before the Subcommittee on the Constitution Committee on the Judiciary in 1996. She recalled the “doctor” telling a woman who was six months pregnant that her baby had Down’s Syndrome. She chose death for her child. Ms. Shafer testified that she saw the baby’s beating heart on the ultrasound monitor. She noticed the baby’s fingers clasping and unclasping and feet kicking as the abortionist pulled his feet and legs out of the womb. He inserted scissors into the baby’s head, and his little arms jerked out in a flinch.
“The doctor opened up the scissors, stuck a high-powered suction tube into the opening and sucked the baby’s brains out. Now the baby was completely limp. I was really completely unprepared for what I was seeing. I almost threw up as I watched the doctor do these things,” she recalled.
The abortionist pulled the baby out and threw him into a pan. “I saw the baby move in the pan. I asked another nurse and she said it was just ‘reflexes.’” Ms. Shafer is now pro-life.
Despite the horror of such a scene, the carnage will continue. President Bush signed a law banning partial birth abortion on November 5, 2003. Before the ink was dry, three federal judges blocked it, ruling it unconstitutional because it provides no exception for the woman’s health. Attorney General John Ashcroft has vowed to enforce the law “using every resource necessary.” Tax money well spent.
Largely symbolic, the ban will not stop abortionists from ripping babies out of women’s wombs. Millions of the unborn are torn, twisted, vacuumed and poisoned to death in the name of almighty “choice.” According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, abortion is one of the most common surgical procedures in the United States. In 2001, 1.31 million pregnancies were terminated. The most common reason cited for termination is lack of finances. One of the least common reasons is the woman’s health. Partial birth abortion is performed on mostly healthy mothers with healthy babies.
While liberals screech about civil rights for their constituency (abortion-supporters, “victimized” blacks and other minorities, criminals, perverts, etc.), a true champion of civil rights, Alveda King, speaks out for the unborn. Ms. King, a niece of Martin Luther King, Jr. and a faithful Christian, asks, “What would Martin Luther King say if he saw the skulls of babies at the bottom of abortion pits? If Martin Luther King’s dream is to live, our babies must live….We can’t sit idly by and allow legal murder.”
Not only do liberals allow it, they seem to thirst for it. Civil rights charlatans and self-proclaimed Christians in Congress make a mockery of faith in Jesus Christ.
So-called Christians seem to be unaware that God expressly and unequivocally condemns the taking of a human life without justification. The Bible treats the unborn as human. In that regard, it follows that abortion is the murder of an innocent, unborn child. The Bible speaks of God knowing the unborn personally in the womb. King David prayed, “My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret…Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.” A pregnant Mary, mother of Jesus, went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John the Baptist. John, called the forerunner of Christ, was born to prophesy the coming of the Son of God. We read that when Elizabeth heard Mary’s voice, her baby “leaped in her womb.”
A baby in the womb set apart by God to fulfill His divine plan: Did God have a plan for each of those 43 million babies murdered since Roe vs. Wade? Study God’s word and find out what He has to say. Just don’t waste your time asking “Christians” in Congress. They worship a god who couldn’t care less.
