Len Munsil's Arizona: A Far, Far Better Place
By J. James Estrada (10/03/06)
The Boston Globe and Rush Limbaugh made note of a controversy brewing in Arizona last week concerning a 9/11 memorial which has been unveiled in Phoenix. Len Munsil, the Republican candidate for Governor who is challenging incumbent Democrat Janet Napolitano, says the memorial should be torn down and redone.
As a resident of Arizona, I think about this: four years from now, it will be 2010. I have no desire to be referring to Janet Napolitano as the Governor of Arizona in 2010. She has held various offices in the State for over 12 years without much in the way of actual accomplishment.
Her first position was that of U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, having been appointed to such by the Clinton administration in 1993. One of the first acts of that administration was to fire all U.S. Attorneys in order to replace them with close confidants and sycophants. It is not in the interest of the State to continue with that kind of association as we embark on issues as important as border enforcement and national security.
It’s not expedient for me to document all of Napalitano’s failures and ineptitudes, that’s a matter of public record. Suffice it to say that if she did not have a majority Republican Assembly to hold down her ideas on taxes (she would love to raise them) and social and educational issues (more social spending – hence, the need to raise taxes, and limited choices in the latter) this state would be thought of in much the same way most think of Ted Kennedy’s Massachusetts or Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco.
Len Munsil comes out of the Republican primary like a knight on a steed to the rescue. He is not here to save the damsel in the castle tower, but to save all of us from the damsel as she wields her liberal magic wand upon the land.
Napolitano has not secured the border because it is politically incorrect to do so. Munsil will secure the border because it’s the right thing to do.
Napolitano has seen Arizona’s crime statistics take us to a national leadership position as the worst among the states. Munsil will deal with crime by enforcing all the laws on the books.
Napolitano is not in favor of school choice. Munsil believes parents are the best arbitrators of their children’s education.
Napolitano takes the Democrat position on abortion: early and often. Munsil backs parental notification and is pro-life.
Napolitano does not believe that the institution of marriage needs to be protected. Munsil knows that marriage is society’s saving grace and best hope for stable and happy children.
Napolitano is liberal on judicial appointments. Munsil is more in line with the mainstream and will appoint conservatives to the court.
Napolitano would like to take guns away from the citizenry. Munsil will make sure we continue to have the option to protect ourselves under 2nd Amendment rights.
Was I surprised that Munsil won the Republican primary? No, because I met the man. As the entire electorate comes to know all there is to know about the two candidates in the governor’s race, this will become clear: Arizona will vote to make our state a better place than it’s been the last dozen plus years.
With Len Munsil in the Statehouse, it will be a far, far better place.
