People Shatter the 'Wall of Silence' About Medical Errors
By Press Release: Jim and Joan Clarke (10/30/06)
COLUMBIA, Maryland, Oct. 30 /Christian Newswire/ -- During the past several weeks, Jim and Joan Clarke, Mary Pettry, Michael and Leon Bennett, and Jeffrey and Mara Freedman have all spoken out about the medical negligence in their lives and the devastating impact on their loved ones.
Speaking out before NBC and ABC TV cameras in front of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Joan Clarke described being the victims of a misdiagnosed heart attack while Jim was a kidney stone patient in a Johns Hopkins Hospital. Drs Camellus Ezeugwu, Alejandro Rodriguez, Shirin Engineer, and George Groman are responsible for the destruction of Jim’s heart because they all breached the standard of care for a heart attack. The result is that Jim had to have 3 open-heart surgeries in 4 months, has permanent heart damage and is a heart transplant candidate because of their failure to provide the appropriate standard of care.
In the meantime, these doctors and this hospital are directly responsible for destroying 180 minutes of Jim’s Emergency Room records documenting his untreated heart attack which occurred in this hospital in the presence of 5 eyewitnesses, including his wife, Joan. Destruction of the medical records is a blatant attempt to dodge accountability and avoid compensating Jim and Joan for his catastrophic loss. While Hopkins Howard County General Hospital blatantly denies any responsibility, the Clarkes have unquestionable evidence to prove their case. The Clarkes are demanding an investigation.
The law firm of Schochor, Federico, and Staton of Baltimore, who were supposed to be representing the Clarkes in their lawsuit, deliberately sabotaged their case by falsifying complaints and other court documents unbeknownst to the Clarkes.
The Clarkes believe that this law firm conspired with the hospital to sabotage their case leaving the Clarkes with absolutely nothing. At this time the Clarkes have no legal representation for their highly meritorious case that has been supported by 3 certificates of merit.
Mary Pettry reports, in the USA Today, that her husband, James, had a heart attack which was misdiagnosed by Dr. Edward Seall, in the Emergency Room in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. As a result of the misdiagnosed heart attack, James died the next day.
Michael and Leon Bennett told the Maryland Daily Record that their father went to Northwest Hospital Center with viral pneumonia, contracted flesh-eating bacteria and ended up having his leg amputated. Later after the amputation, Mr. Bennett was transferred to Sinai Hospital with a severe throat infection. While at Sinai, he contracted three additional strains of bacteria and died.
In the Columbia Flier, Jeffrey and Mara Freedman reported that their son, Mason, had a piece of his right index finger cut off by a nurse at Hopkins Howard County General Hospital. An X-ray showed “a traumatic amputation of the digital tip of the second digit on the right hand” and a fractured bone. Mason was taken to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Doctors surgically reattached the finger, but it did not regain normal function.
