Why Is The Mainstream Media 'Lying About Iraq?'
By Gordon Bishop (12/04/06)
Richard Miniter, a war correspondent, is the author of a new book titled "DISINFORMATION: 22 Media Myths About The War On Terror."
Miniter’s book is supported by The National Journalism Center founded in 1977 in Washington, D.C. The foundation, a nonprofit organization, is a project of Young America’s Foundation. The Center’s mission is “Truth In The Media.”
The foundation is fighting “Left-wing bias that is eroding our nation’s faith in freedom, in our brave troops, and in our country. It’s time to restore ethical reporting to journalism by Americans who aren’t ashamed to be Americans!”
The Journalism Center was established to “train the next generation of media executives, reporters and producers, and bring back honest and ethical journalist to America.”
Author Miniter writes, “The liberal media’s conspiracy theories, half-truths and outright lies are damaging America’s reputation and encouraging our enemies.”
In Miniter’s book, you’ll learn the surprising truth:
-The links between Saddam Hussein’s Iraq and al Qaeda are clear and undeniable.
-Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) have been found in Iraq.
-The 9/11 terrorist hijackers did not use box-cutters to take control of the four
planes they piloted to disaster.
-Most insurgents and suicide bombers in Iraq are foreigners from radical Muslim.
Miniter writes, “Our U.S. soldiers ask me why the mainstream media never report on the Iraq what our troops see every day. The Iraq our military sees has a booming economy, schools and skyscrapers going up, free elections, a free press, and a new Iraqi war.”
To hear the mainstream media tell it, “”quagmire,” a “catastrophe,” and “another Vietnam.”
These “lies and many others” according to Miniter’s Iraqi investigation, “have been spread by Michael Moore, Dan Rather, and the rest of the liberal media.”
He accused the mainstream media of “playing right into the hands of our terrorist enemies.”
He cited “just a few lies that have been fed to the American media by Arab state-run television, left-wing activists and even by al Qaaeda themselves”
-Lie: The collapse of the World Trade Center Twin Towers on September 11,
2001 was an “inside job.”
-Lie: Osama bin Laden is on dialysis.
-Lie: The U.S. military killed 100,000 civilians in Iraq.
-Lie: Halliburton (a contractor once headed by Vice President Richard Cheney)
“made a fortune in Iraq.”
Miniter said he went to the scene to investigate the “lies.” “I followed Osama bin Laden’s footsteps to his last known hiding place. I met with spies, weapons inspectors, White House officials and former terrorists.”
Miniter cited “three truths”:
-TRUTH: Iraq is not “another Vietnam.”
-TRUTH: America is “winning the War on Terror.”
-TRUTH: Much of what you hear from the liberal media about the War on Terror
is a lie.”
Miniter said he wrote DISINFORMATION to “expose the mistakes, propaganda, and outrageous lies that have become standard fare at today’s news outlets.”
As an award-winning journalist and best-selling author, Miniter joined more than 1,400 National Journalism Center graduates chipping away “at the liberals’ stranglehold on the media.”
Other graduates include Ann Coulter, author and columnist; John Fund, columnist for The Wall Street Journal, and Malcolm Gladwell, #1 New York Times best-selling author of “The Tipping Point and Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.”
Other graduates have also gone on to work at The Washington Times, National Review, The American Spectator and Forbes Magazine.
