Never Negotiate With Terrorists Who Hate Freedom
By Gordon Bishop (12/11/06)
"The Iraq Study" is out and the response is negative by those who have read it.
The reason is that those who wrote it are politically-correct do-gooders who really believe the United States and other free nations can somehow negotiate with terrorists who want all of us killed if we don’t believe in their ideology.
The Iraq Study is typical of today’s politically-correct environment that doesn’t deal with the real world. These PC folks live in La La Land, where there is always peace and no wars.
Since the beginning of Western Civilization, there have been wars every century among the world’s growing nations. There will always be wars as long as there are dictators who hate freedom and democracy.
The co-chairs of the Iraq Study are former Republican Secretary of State James A. Baker III and former Democrat Congressman Lee Hamilton.
Republican critics of the report warned the bipartisan panel’s proposals are a “recipe for retreat.”
Baker said, “We’re not going to win this war militarily; we’re gong to win it politically.”
Some in the Middle East have rejected the group’s call for concessions with Syria, a hot bed for terrorists.
“There must be a political reconciliation among the warring factors in Iraq or we’re going to continue to have major-league problems,” Baker said.
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani severely criticized the Iraq Study as “very dangerous,” saying it would undermine Iraq’s sovereignty because it could allow thousands of officials from Saddam Hussein’s ousted party to return to their jobs. Hussein is scheduled to be hanged for his crimes against Iraqi citizens.
President Bush says the Baker-Hamilton plan falls short of a full victory.
U.S. Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) took issue with the commission’s call for phasing out the U.S. combat role over the next 15 months and focusing instead on training and advising the Iraqi army. McCain rejected the idea that the Army and Marines cannot spare more combat forces for Iraq duty.
“There’s only one thing worse than an over-stressed Army and Marine Corps – and that’s a defeated Army and Marine Corps,” said McCain, a decorated Vietnam veteran and a 1008 Republican presidential hopeful.
“I believe this is a recipe that will lead to our defeat sooner or late in Iraq,” McCain said.
The Bush Administration agreed with the commission’s call for a new round of Middle East diplomacy to address the Israel-Palestinian conflict, which has been brewing for many decades with no solution in sight.
Iraqi citizens said last Thursday that a U.S. advisory’s group recommendation that Washington move toward a military disengagement offered little hope of an improvement in their lives anytime soon.
Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh warned that improving the battlefield capabilities of the Iraqi armed forces would not be “the magic wand that brings a solution one day.
On the streets of Baghdad, skepticism seemed widespread, reported Associated Press. The Iraq Study Group also recommended the U.S. reduces “political, military or economic support” for Iraq, if the government in Baghdad cannot make substantial progress providing for its own security.
The report said Bush should put aside misgivings and engage Syria, Iran and the leaders of the insurgent forces in negotiations on Iraq’s future, and urged him to revive efforts at a broader Middle East Peace.
That’s like walking up to a terrorist and saying, “Let’s negotiate a peaceful settlement.”
The enemy has declared war on America and its allies. They want to kill us. Period.
Our strategy for survival in this global war on terror is to destroy terrorism before it destroys America and all of Western Civilization—which is the enemy’s ultimate goal.
