Johnny, we hardly knew ye
By Resa LaRu Kirkland (12/19/06)
Getting this John the Beloved To Linger - While attending Highland High School in the early 80's, I would often see a book in our library entitled, 'Johnny, we hardly knew ye'. It had a youthful and smiling JFK on its cover, and was a memoir written by two of the future-President's aides regarding his first run for Congress in 1946.
I assumed the title had come from the fact that this particular Johnny died prematurely, but it actually turned out to be an old Irish war protest song. Oddly appropriate considering that the sixties ushered in the reign of this particular old Irish man, who brought in Vietnam, thereby creating that most useless of species, the Hippy. And oh! What that hath wrought.
OK, so he wasn’t very old. But to a teenager, he was ancient. And to a proud Reaganite, he stood for everything nauseating, selfish, and cowardly that his decade came to be. The book was drivel, which meant the Hippy Press loved it, the critics worshipped it, and at least one teenager wasn’t buying it. Heck, I wouldn’t even check it out after reading the jacket. I was, after all, in an American school. I’d already had all the Political Castration I could stand. I certainly wasn’t going to suffer through anymore on my own time.
And from the permanent position of the book on the shelf, it was apparent that I wasn’t alone in this opinion.
So that Johnny, we hardly knew remained just that—at least for me. The original Irish diddy eventually morphed into When Johnny Comes Marching Home, a song I knew well. That 60’s Johnny isn’t even a memory for me, just old stories told often enough to masquerade as remembrance. The Johnny/Marching song is beyond memory; it is American life, American history, and due to wicked men, American future.
And that brings me to today’s Johnny, the one I grieve for now.
He came to us as a substitute for America’s representative at that Satanic Domain we benignly refer to as the UN. This John’s gold-rimmed glasses and thick mustache belied his magnificent aptitude for the job of dancing with the devil and still being able to look himself in the mirror. Yale-educated and reason-entrenched, John Bolton brought something to the UN that has been lost over the years of forced-fed PC—raw courage of his convictions and the confidence to carry them out. He brought back hope; he brought back pride; he brought back guts, black and white, right and wrong, and never once flinched.
He was a glory to behold. When everyone’s favorite TOTALitarian DICtator started his most recent bout of defiance and farting, this John stood firm, letting China and Russia know that current-day problems in North Korea are enabled by them, and making sure the whole world knew it.
"We will find out in this experts' meeting this afternoon what North Korea's protectors on the council are going to do," Bolton said, in an apparent reference to China and Russia, which infuriated China's representative.
Oh how magnificent! In resplendent robes of daring and belief, he took a Politically Castrated nation and re-attached our balls and our brains. He looked to the logic and reason of a situation, and the motives behind them. If they were good, he backed them. If they were necessary, he stood his ground. If they were evil, he gave that truth his own voice and did not falter or fear. He refused to bow to polls, popularity, or threats, and for the first time in a loooooong time, we were Cowboys again.
And now we’ve lost him, thanks mostly to the party of the other Johnny I’ve mentioned here, the one that these self-same people revere beyond martyr and approaching Godhood. (I say nearing only because they cringe at the thought of God.) You see, for the left there is no black and white, right and wrong, guts and glory. They live in the lukewarm world of gray, tepid, simpering head-hanging.
There is another John in history, a deeply beloved and blessed John. In fact, he still walks among us today. Two thousand years ago, when Christ knew He was down to His final earthly hours, He gave each of his apostles the desires of their hearts. John asked to tarry on the earth until his beloved Savior returned, that he might bring many unto Christ. He was translated and given power over death. This has come at great personal sacrifice, let there be no doubt. He has watched the cycle of life repeated again and again on friends and loved ones, not yet able to join them. He has seen great things, from the days of stones and donkeys to the days of computers and space travel. He has seen the creation of the greatest nation in history, the restoration of his beloved Israel, but he has also seen the Holocaust and the horrors of Islammunism. Through it all he has remained faithful to his promise, and he has done it not only for his Lord, but for us, his brethren.
Whenever I see a man of might, courage, and selflessness, I wonder to myself, Could this be John the Beloved, he who chose to tarry among us until his Lord returns? He would not be an ostentatious man, nor wealthy, nor loud of voice. He would be soul-powerful, kind, compassionate, moved by many but unmovable by evil. He would work for a cause simply because it was right, with no ulterior motive. If John the Beloved has a choice of who to be for a generation, until it passes away, I believe he would choose to be a man like John Bolton, because Bolton will not bow to evil…ever. He has fought for his beloved America, for God’s beloved Israel, and now he fades into the background of these last days. Would that he could tarry among us longer.
When this Johnny comes marching home, Hoorah. When he stands solid, Hoorah. HE is the profile in courage; this John, not JFK. HE stands to do battle for right. We could count on John…what a shame he couldn’t count on us.
They're rolling out the guns again, hurroo, hurroo
They're rolling out the guns again, hurroo, hurroo
They're rolling out the guns again
But they never will take our sons again
No they never will take our sons again
Johnny I'm swearing to ye.

As our enemies roll out the guns again, as their ghastly goals require our sons again, God send us a John Bolton…again.
Keep the faith, bros, in all things courage, and no substitute for VICTORY.
