Denying Emergency Care, Part II: Violence As A Health Problem Is Quackery
By John Longenecker (01/23/07)
Last week I wrote that when gun control people view violence as a health problem, their political interference with self-defense essentially denies emergency health care for the victims of violence. It's like stealing someone's life-saving medicine in the name of being anti-violent. Just as ineffectual and just as wrong.
Specifically, one’s health (their safety) is in danger when they cannot fight back when facing grave danger. Reasonable? Reasonable. That police officer’s gun is not there for your protection, but his/hers. When they say they want to go home at night at end of watch, why can’t we be safe, too?
Indeed? I'm asked how 22,000 anti-gun laws affect the non-gun owner citizen.
Try this: Some observers say that the future of America rests within the values system of individual officers. That values system will dictate to their individual consciences whether they will enforce, as their job, what they know to be illegal laws, or view such use of force as wrong and refuse to enforce such unreasonable, illegal laws.
One of the clues to this is in dozens of officers in New Orleans gone missing prior to the gun confiscation there. I sure would like to hear from them, anonymously, of course. Write me on whether you knew in advance of the gun confiscation and if that played a role in your decision to bail. John@GoodForTheCountry.com
[Why is this possible? Because many, many people join law enforcement to make a difference, and they love their communities. I know. Irrespective of the rumors of many officers, many more of them love their community, and specific aspects of the disaster that followed might have been planned for a very long time. What if they were told to be ready on short notice at any time to betray their community on a mission to confiscate weapons from law-abiding citizens?]
This while criminals were released from incarceration ‘for their safety.’
As of this date, New Orleans has refused a court order to return personal weapons. So much for being a nation of laws, eh? The left as a whole cannot claim they obey laws until those guns are returned.
You can see how the portrayal of guns or even violence as a health problem is to mislead the public immensely. The problem is not guns or violence, the problem is crime.
Unanswered, escalating criminal violence made possible by talking the targets of violence out of their authority and power. And disarming the citizens house-to-house at gunpoint – that liberal lie that said this would never happen.
In short, rhetoric about violent crime is an excuse to persuade good people to cooperate with their own disarmament. Make no mistake, violence is allowed to continue - knifings, beatings, robberies, invasions, abductions - in order to persuade people to cooperate with all sorts of unreasonable impositions to come, predominantly in electronic surveillance.
Because it’s not even about guns or violence anymore than it is about drugs or talkradio content: it is about Independence and self-management, self-education and guts, and that means knowing and exercising your personal authority in a nation of self-rule where executives do what they are told and not the other way around. Nation of laws, remember?
Ambitious officials and special agencies are working to take the self out of self-rule.
[In case you didn’t notice, crime is used as an excuse to influence citizens and not criminals. That’s no accident of good intentions – it’s social engineering.]
Anti-violence rhetoric is a call for surrender, politically and in personal safety. Labeling objection as hate speech and conflict is to silence people, another form of disarmament, is it not?
It is to get citizens to abandon a duty, fighting other citizens who feel that duty, the end result leaving liberty defenseless, and, friends, when parents are powerless, that means the children are at the mercy of drones in government.
The reason nuts are selling disarmament is because liberty can otherwise protect itself, and how.
This makes seeing violence as a health problem the view of a quack. Seeing the light-speed comparing of notes (i.e. talkradio and blogging) as hate or conflict is also the view of a quack.
The societal health problem is not violence, but crime, and the removal of guns – a form of health insurance for the sovereign citizen – is pure quackery.
Then again, freedom of speech is a form of health insurance. National health insurance, get it?
The real treatment is very simple: honor your oath of office. Protect and defend the Constitution.
The rest will take care of itself.
And then, there will be no work for liberals. None.
In this country, there never was.
