Pre-marital Hanky-Panky Reaching 95%; Some Ministries Suggest Going To Opposite Extreme
By Frederick Meekins (03/27/07)
While Generations Radio is to be commended for exposing on its March 12th broadcast the alarming trend that up to 95% of those surveyed admit to premarital sex and the even more disturbing development that this phenomena is so widespread that little is being said about church leaders shackingup, I think their solution to the problem goes to the other extreme and itself borders on ecclesiastical tyranny.
By the end of what was an otherwise informative broadcast (around the 18 minute mark), it is suggested that those courting one another should be so monitored as to have phone numbers withheld from one another and only allowed to have prearranged conversations with one another under the surveillance of a church elder regarding a preapproved topic.
It was further stated that one should not develop feelings for one's prospective partner until the engagement is announced. Frankly though, what's the point in getting married if you are getting along just fine without the person in your life to begin with?
Such guidelines might have their place within a family context to underage minors, but isn't that going a bit far for young adults pushing into their 30's?
Frankly, if the church you are going to demands that much control over your life, it's time to hit the road before the tainted Kool-Aid is dished out.
