Wakey, wakey, little American!

At the present moment I view the political landscape in America as a proverbial compass at the true North Pole, its needle spinning wildly. Trying to read it are our political leaders (I use the term very loosely) encircled by the rest of us, mutely looking on.
It occurs to me at times like this how great a leader Ronald Reagan truly was. He led even those who didn’t want to follow – his political opponents – but went along willingly because of the quality of his leadership. When criticized, he laughed it off, which is far more disarming and defusing than saying nothing, which (very dangerously) infers no contest.
I think that’s one major area where George W. Bush got into trouble. I believe many of his ideas were every bit as good as RR’s, but he just doesn’t have the natural ability.
Most Americans are currently wandering nearly sightless through a surreal cultural miasma, people in high places saying the most outrageous things and taking the most outrageous action in the face of truly deadly and unprecedented threats, and our citizenry simply reacting somnambulistically – if at all.

I remember seeing a segment on Senator Harry Reid on Pat Robertson’s television show when he was the Minority Leader. Robertson lauded Reid as being such a conscientious Christian that he was likely to be the voice of reason in the new minority. I certainly don’t live and die by what Robertson says (although we do happen to agree that Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez’s grey matter ought to become part of ambient atmosphere), but the extent to which he missed the call on Reid is truly stunning. Say what you like about Robertson; he’s no dullard.
Perhaps it is the axiomatic allure of power that led Reid to utter his treasonous remarks of April 18, put his alleged faith on the back burner, and which keeps him in lock step with the Democrats’ lich Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her degenerate acolytes.

“Al Qaeda is in the United States, former CIA Director George Tenet says, and he’s surprised there have not been more attacks on American soil.
“‘I do know one thing in my gut,’ Tenet writes in his upcoming book. ‘Al Qaeda is here and waiting.’
“Tenet, who served as CIA chief from 1997 to 2004, questioned how Al Qaeda hasn’t sent ‘suicide bombers to cause chaos in a half-dozen American shopping malls on any given day.’
“Tenet resigned as head of the U.S. intelligence agency in June 2004 amid criticism over the handling of the Sept. 11 attacks and the war in Iraq.”
So what does some garden variety disgraced ex-intelligence chief with seven years as top dog and many more in the business know anyway, right? We’ll believe it when the malls start blowing up or when an entire elementary school full of kids are murdered, as occurred in Russia.

“Saudi Official: Arrested Militants Trained to Use Planes in Suicide Bombings
“CAIRO, Egypt – Some of the militants arrested in a terror sweep in Saudi Arabia trained to use civilian aircraft in homicide missions, a Saudi interior ministry spokesman said Saturday.
“‘They were trained on civilian aircraft, to use the aircraft as a tool to carry out suicide operations,’ Mansour al-Turki told The Associated Press by phone from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. ‘The last group (we) rounded up are carriers of Al Qaeda ideology, working on achieving Al Qaeda goals, which is to take over the society.’
“The comments mark a rare mention of Al Qaeda by Saudi officials, who customarily refer to the organization as a ‘deviant group.’ It was also the first confirmation that the arrested planned homicide missions similar to those of the Sept. 11 attack on the United States.”
But we have nothing to worry about, really; the machinations of America’s “enemies” are all a figment of the President’s imagination, the bloody liar. Gay rights and Britney Spears flashing her privates and American Idol are far more relevant than tedious political twaddle, rhetoric and maneuvering. Too bad about Sanjaya, huh? That broke my expletive deleted heart, it did…

“Al-Sadr: President Bush Is ‘Greatest Evil’ for Not Withdrawing Troops
“BAGHDAD – Radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr launched a strong attack Saturday on President George W. Bush, calling him the ‘greatest evil’ for refusing to withdraw American troops from Iraq.
“‘Here are the Democrats calling you to withdraw or even set a timetable and you are not responding,’ al-Sadr's statement said. ‘It is not only them who are calling for this but also Republicans, to whom you belong.’”
Now – leaving aside that this pudgy, retrograde cartoon character’s grey matter ought to have become part of the ambient atmosphere altogether too long ago – attend to how he plays off of the political discord and media spin to which Americans are exposed every day. So not only isn’t this murdering, walking offal sack pushing up cactus, he’s using our own weak foreign policy and propaganda against us, presuming to dictate our foreign policy so that he and his Iranian pals will have no opposition in Iraq.
The sick part is that so many of us are listening, but definitely not comprehending. Can we not see that for all practical purposes – if not by design – the most powerful players in our government (with the exception of the current Executive branch) and our insane, suicidal entertainment and news media might as well don the robes and address us in Farsi?
From Pelosi’s mouth to Al-Sadr’s; from Reid’s mouth to Al-Sadr’s; from NBC News to Al-Sadr’s lips – or is it the other way around?
A red flag ought to go up when our enemies and factions within our nation chant the same mantra, but it hasn’t. Why? Because, like the perceptions of who we are and the values we hold, definitions of the very words we use have been so perverted that the concept of “enemy” isn’t even clear.
When the malls are blowing up and the schoolchildren are getting their throats slit, many of us will wonder if we didn’t deserve it somehow, because that’s what Tim Robbins, Rosie O’Donnell, Wolf Blitzer, Cindy Sheehan, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid suggested. Will we decide that President Bush orchestrated it all for some obscure reason?
Wakey, wakey, little American… There are jihadists with a scimitar and video camera in your kid’s bedroom…
