So, Why Don’t They Want Us To Know This?
By Charles Cole (04/21/04)
Those of us old enough to remember the Watergate matter will recall the dogged “pursuit of the truth” conducted by the crusading left to expose the cover up of the Nixon Administration’s nefarious scandal “What did the President know, and when did he know it?”. This statement, uttered during a congressional hearing by then-Senator Howard Baker (R-TN), became the mantra for the relentless witch hunt (aka investigation) which Democrat congressmen and their leftwing staffers (e.g. Hillary Rodham), dutifully aided by their soul mates in the “mainstream media”, persistently carried out until Richard Nixon resigned in 1974.
The left has long championed “a woman’s right to choose”, at the core of which is the longstanding notion (derived from the old British Common Law) that a fetus is “not a person” until it draws its first breath outside the womb. While this indeed has been the law for centuries, so were many arcane practices, e.g. a husband’s treating his wife as “property” – a premise which the “activists” of NARAL, NOW, Planned Parenthood, the American Association of University Women, or other pro-abortion extremists would no doubt excoriate today as an example of primitive, medieval ignorance. And yet, these same well informed, highly educated people stubbornly hold to the aforementioned primordial common law definition of a human being. Given the sophistication of modern medical technology, the argument that a fetus is “not a person” appears as obsolete as the erstwhile theory of treating infectious diseases by applying leeches to the skin in hopes of curing the patient by draining out his “bad blood”.
What, then, can be the justification for the left’s rabid objection to applying modern science and technology to the area of prenatal, fetal development? They wholeheartedly support prenatal care for women, often at taxpayer expense for those without health insurance. But, for some reason they object vehemently to using in vivo sonogram technology to demonstrate the development of first and second trimester fetuses within a woman’s womb.
Moreover, the pro-abortion lobby reacts frantically to any attempt to provide scientific evidence of the results of early and mid term vacuum pump abortions such as is now being proposed by British TV. Could it be that these paragons of the scientific method have something to fear from making such scenes public? Is it possible that they are afraid to allow pregnant women, after seeing images of the human (gasp!) organism living and growing inside their bodies, to then view aborted fetuses? Surely they want each woman’s “right to choose” to be what the law deems an “informed choice”, do they not? To conceal material facts from the intended beneficiaries of their social engineering schemes would be fraudulent, would it not?
And so, on yet another societal issue, we see the duplicity and hypocrisy of the extreme leftwingers. They rant, they rave, they demonstrate and then, having got their way on an “issue”, they resist all attempts at rebutting one of their sacred cows. When their ox is gored, they bang their oatmeal spoons on their highchairs in “protest”. Infantile, puerile, and uniquely “liberal”.
