Anti-American Bigotry At The University Of Central Florida

Rebuilding On A Conservative Kornerstone, a student group at the University of Central Florida, proposes displaying an American flag in every class room. Heather Smith, senior and chairwoman of R.O.C.K., believes displaying the flag is important because, "A lot of students feel like anything American is a bad thing, and it is unfortunate because they are being taught all this indoctrination instead of actually being taught the subject matter."
The project would cost $3,000 of Student Government funds (from a $10.8 million budget), a small amount compared to expenditures by the S.G.A. of $7,000 to send students to a pro-marijuana conference in California, and $140,000 spent on tickets to Disney World.
The plan receives support from the majority of students, but a few left-wingers oppose the flag. Their opposition is represented in this quote by a member of the Progressive Council. "It is also important to remember that to some of us, the American flag stands for violence, oppression, and the rise of fascism." Activist and spokesperson of the radical left, Janeane Garofalo, echoes this sentiment, "Our country is founded on a sham: our forefathers were slave-owning rich white guys who wanted it their way. So when I see the American flag, I go, 'Oh my God, you're insulting me.' That you can have a gay parade on Christopher Street in New York, with naked men and women on a float cheering, 'We're here, we're queer!' -- that's what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride." Garofalo also stated that conservatives are "dumb and mean." By her statement concerning the flag, she proves it is not conservatives who are "dumb and mean," but she and her ilk who are possessed by anti-American bigotry that is sick, evil and moronic.
This "naked, gay, flag burning man" is not worthy of greater veneration than the flag of the United States of America. This man is not the symbol of a nation founded on the ideals of freedom, equality and opportunity. He was not tattered, torn and yet intact after the Civil War in which hundreds of thousands died to secure these ideals for all Americans. He was not carried by our soldiers as they twice saved the entire world from dictatorial domination. The American soldiers who freed the Jews from Hitler's death camps and the children from Saddam's prison did not do so under the banner of a "naked gay man." From her very inception, America has been the greatest force for freedom and equality in the world, and her banner is not of a "naked gay man."
Our flag is the symbol of our nation, and that nation has sacrificed more to free the peoples of the world from tyranny and dictatorship than any other nation in history; why would anyone feel such visceral hatred at its very sight? The only reason they so hate our flag is that it represents the nation that has defeated and frustrated their ideologies. The ideologies of the left (communism and socialism) are responsible for the deaths of over 200,000,000 people. From Stalin's purges, to Hitler's genocide, to Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge, the legacy of the left has been starvation, mass murder, death camps and war.
When "Progressives" (code word for communists) look at the flag of our nation, they see a reminder of their failure. The darkest villains in the history of mankind are their ideological forefathers. Moreover, that proud banner attests that we have won. Our flag proclaims the superiority of freedom, equality and free-market capitalism. The bold colors of red, white and blue wave atop the "shining city on the hill," the beacon of freedom envied by all nations.
Students opposing the flag claim that its display is offensive to foreign students. Facts do not support that claim. From all over the world, people come to the nation symbolized by our flag. They come for freedom, opportunity, and (as used to be said before political correctness came to trump truth) a better way of life. Cubans, for instance, risk imprisonment and death to come to America. They risk everything to flee the socialist dictatorship that the left holds as its ideal. If they make it here, they apply for citizenship; they work hard and raise their children as Americans. They honor our flag because they are grateful for the rights and freedoms America grants. Those who are offended by our flag are not enlightened multiculturalists, they are anti-American bigots.
