SCOOTER LIBBY AND THE ILLINOIS DEMOCRATS

For some Americans, President Bush's decision to spare former vice presidential aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby from going to prison is the right thing to do. It is right for many reasons, let alone the most obvious: He did not kill boys and bury them in his basement. Nor did he threaten the life of a gun shop owner.
Speaking about the Libby case, Illinois Democrat Sen. Richard Durbin said: "When it comes to the law, there should not be two sets of rules--one for President Bush and Vice President Cheney and another for the rest of America...No one in this administration should be above the law."
So, no one should be above the law. But what if they are a prominent Illinois Democrat? Consider the case of Fr. Michael Pfleger, who has the support of the Illinois Democrats and the Clan of Bridgeport. What Fr. Michael Pfleger did is a lot more simple and straight forward than what "Scooter" Libby did.
At a rally before a gun shop outside Chicago, Fr. Michael Pfleger told the estimated 200 people there, "We're going to snuff out John Riggio," referring to the gun shop owner. The priest then added, "We're going to snuff out legislators that are voting against our gun laws."
These remarks were so inflammatory that the leader of the Chicago Archdiocese, Cardinal George, responded by saying, "Publicly delivering a threat against anyone's life betrays the civil order and is morally outrageous, especially if this threat came from a priest."
I don't hear Senator Durbin asking for only one set of rules here in Illinois when it comes to making verbal threats. I don't hear Senator Durbin nor Senator Obama asking that Fr. Michael Pfleger be prosecuted by Illinois' Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan, either. Fr. Pfleger remains a free man.
Maybe Senator Durbin would prefer that "Scooter" Libby be "snuffed out" instead of going to prison. Democrats in Illinois seem to get away with saying that.
