A New Twist In The Bell Curve
By James T. Moore (09/02/07)
If you are one of the few people in the universe who never heard of the Bell Curve, you have been missing the race rumble of the century. The Bell Curve, a provocative, highly-researched, 845-page tome by Charles Murray and the late Richard J.Hernstein, purports to take the human psyche apart and prove, allegedly, that the races are not equal in intellectual capacity.
I say allegedly because the controversial content of the Bell Curve is so intense that most people have an opinion about it without ever reading it. Nevertheless, the Bell Curve has an interesting, if socially disturbing, ring to it.
Essentially, it claims that a human being’s I.Q is 40 to 80 percent heritable, and that it relates to almost everything we do in life: school performance, jobs, income, crime illegitimacy, everything. And because it does, claims Murray, it cannot be ignored when we are seriously and realistically contemplating the future of our nation.
Although a short article can hardly cover all the details of an 850-page book, the heart of the matter--and most stunning aspect of Murray’s research---can be summed up rather coherently in one sentence: In the United States, the difference in I.Q. between the white population and the black population is some 15 points, with whites at the higher end--- which, incidentally, no one in the field disputes. The real argument seems to be why the difference exists in the first place.
But the Pandora’s Box that the Bell Curve has opened is not what troubles me. I have no qualms about which race has the most smarts. Every race has its share of bright lights and dim bulbs. However, what does pique my concern is an article by H Millard called “The Recessive Race”, in which he sees the Bell Curve being played out in GENES instead of I.Q. scores---suggesting that a lower IQ is not as important as the character of genes that are passed on through generation after generation.
This, Millard implies, will have a cumulative effect on the intellectual quality of generations to come, in ANY country. And as an American who is concerned about which direction, up or down, our country is going, THAT is what bothers me.
What led to this “genes” business was Millard’s observation of a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, white-skinned woman pushing a stroller containing two brown-skinned babies with an obvious mixture of both Negroid and Caucasian features. This mixture of races stunned Millard, but not in the way you think. Blondeness, he asserts, is caused by a “recessive” gene. In lay terms, that means that blonde parents tend to beget blonde offspring. No surprise there.
But “blondeness” is only one of several unique characteristics of white people that are being “blended” into non-existence with the advent of racial mixtures in our society. And this has repercussions for our whole country; because, as Millard points out, “whiteness” is much more than skin color. White people are white from their genes up. Whiteness is not a paint job over a standard model human. The fact is, almost everything is different between races, not just skin color, but their customs, cultures, traditions, even their way of thinking about things.
My conclusion is this: Every race on earth was put here by God Almighty. Each race is unique. Each therefore, has a right, no, an obligation, to perpetuate, to keep alive, to carry on, and not mongrelize the distinctiveness of his own race. This includes both the black and white races.
However, what I’m seeing is the coloring down of the white race, my race, to near extinction. Which not only is eminently unfair, but also a threat to the nature, the character, the temper, the independence, and the aura individuality, on which America’s foundation of freedom is built. And endangering that foundation of uniqueness is something we should not accept, or stand for.
