The Money behind the Politics
By JB Williams (10/06/07)
Who Gives, Who Gets, Who Wins - It will come as no surprise that in American politics, he with the gold makes the rules. But it may surprise many to learn who has the gold and what they spend it on.
American founders established Life, Liberty and the freedom to define and pursue individual Happiness, as God given “unalienable” rights of every American citizen. Even today, more than 90 percent of all Americans claim faith in a God who created us, and “endowed” us with these individual rights. More than 80 percent of Americans claim the Christian faith specifically.
In such a nation, how is it possible that the unalienable right to Life has been alienated by a mother’s right to kill? How has an unalienable right to individual liberty been alienated by those more interested in the greater communal good of special interest groups? And how has the unalienable right to individually define and pursue Happiness become some communal right to attack individual achievement and penalize personal success?
In short, the answer is - the money behind the politics. He with the gold makes the rules and today, most political money is being invested in these anti-American socialist ideas. It’s just that simple.
The money behind Abortion on Demand
Between the years 1990 and 2006, the Pro-Life movement invested a little more than $5.5 million in pursuing a Pro-Life political agenda. 94 percent of that was invested with Republican politicians.
But during the same period, the Pro-Abortion lobby invested three times that amount, a reported $15.3 million to keep Roe vs. Wade intact and abortion on demand legal via erroneous judicial fiat. 80 percent of this money was invested with Democrat politicians.
While it’s true that most Americans support a “woman’s right” to make choices that effect her life, it is also true that most Americans do not include the right to abortion on demand as a form of “after-the-carefree-romp” birth control, which account for 98 percent of all abortions.
The abortion on demand lobby is a numerical minority in America, about ¼ of the nation. But it invests three times that of the pro-life lobby, so pro-death is the winner. It will remain the winner so long as it remains the better funded lobby.
Second Amendment Rights
Much time is spent discussing what the founders intended with their 2nd Amendment Right to Bear Arms and it’s no secret that some Americans would like to end this right for all Americans. At the moment, our gun rights are fairly secure and here’s why. The Gun Control lobby invested a reported $1.7 million to take your guns away, from 1990 through 2006, 94 percent of it with Democrats. The Gun Right’s lobby invested a reported $18. 9 million during the same period in an effort to keep your rights intact. 85 percent of it with Republicans.
Again, he with the gold makes the rules and so long as the people are willing to fight to protect this right, with their wallet, they will retain this right. What a shame that we don’t spend as much to defend the innocent life of a child.
The Public Education System
Almost every American agrees that our public education system is a shambles. We have one of the highest drop-out rates in the world and we still graduate too many young adults who can’t even read enough to vote intelligently, much less understand what they are voting about.
But the education lobby invested over $116 million from 1990 through 2006 to keep it that way, a reported 69 percent of it with Democrats. So long as the teachers unions pour this kind of money into keeping the public education system sub-standard for benefit of union tenure, those who wish to improve or replace public education will not have the power to do so.
Judicial Tyranny and Frivolous Law Suits
Most Americans now have first hand experience with some form of judicial activism or frivolous law suits, both of which are reaching epidemic proportions in America. Doctors and nurses are leaving the medical profession at a record rate today because no matter what they charge for their life saving services, they can not afford sky rocketing medical malpractice coverage.
It’s no accident that activist courts and ambulance chasing lawyers rule the day in America. This special interest group invested an incredible $784 million in keeping their right to wreck the American justice system intact, 72 percent of that with Democrats.
In case you’re wondering, no special interest group on earth spends more lobbying Washington and no group in America profits more from their investment. So long as this remains the case, the American justice system will remain a mess. If you want to know why private health care is under attack and socialized medicine is being pushed today, this is a great place to start.
The Health Care Provider
As a result of the growing problem caused by the huge lawyer lobby, medical professionals themselves are now spending money in an effort to protect themselves and their profession. They invested more than $361 million from 1990 through 2006, almost 60 percent of that with Republicans of course.
What about the evil Lobbyist Groups we love to hate?
Lobbying law makers is, in and of itself, a legitimate profession, when done above board. So long as law makers have the power to legislate policies that directly or indirectly impact businesses, employers and industry, these folks have a need and a right to be heard on Capitol Hill. The political debate is over how much power they have, and who they wield that power with.
Most Americans will be surprised to learn that for all the rhetoric surrounding this group, they are not nearly as powerful as you might imagine and they are by no means a “partisan” lobby.
From 1990 through 2006, Washington lobby firms invested a total of $119.4 million on a very long list of many different clients with a wide range of interests. Nothing compared to the lawyer or private health care lobby. But most interesting is the fact that this $119.4 million was split almost equally between Democrats who received 51 percent and Republicans who received 49 percent.
Keep this in mind as you listen to Democrats rail against Washington Lobbyists during the campaign season. Democrats receive the lion’s share of this money and they always have.
In fact, next time you are asking who in Washington DC is for sale, or who is in the hip pocket of BIG time lobbyist efforts, consider all of these facts.
Then consider how these facts add up…
· Although most Americans oppose abortion on demand, they only spend 1/3 that of those who support abortion on demand, so they lose. The culture of Life supports Republicans, while the culture of death supports Democrats.
· We still have our 2nd Amendment Rights because people are willing to put their money where their mouth is on this matter. Those who support the constitutional right to bear arms support Republicans and those who seek to take this right away from American citizens support Democrats.
· Our public education system is a disaster because it is designed to benefit union tenure, not the education of our children. The teachers unions are spending millions with Democrats to protect the interests of union employees. But who’s spending money to protect the interests of our children?
· Nobody in America spends more to lobby Washington DC than trial lawyers and they spend almost all of it with Democrats. Why? And what effect does this have upon our system of justice, or our health care system for that matter?
· People who provide health care support Republicans. People attacking private health care and pushing socialized medicine support Democrats. Which side do you support?
Democrats talk about how the Insurance, Oil & Gas and Pharmaceutical industries own Republican law makers. But all three of these industries combined, spent less lobbying Washington than trial lawyers alone did and Democrats received an overall average of about 37 percent of these lobby funds as well.
Clearly, when it comes to raking in special interest lobby money in Washington DC, Democrats are the hands down winners of this practice.
So why do so many American voters believe that Democrats are the “party of the little guy” when all the hard facts say that they are actually the juggernaut winners of the big special interest “anti-little American” lobby effort in Washington DC?
Easy…. People believe what they hear, if it’s what they want to believe. The facts rarely get in the way of a good marketable lie. Especially in America, especially today. Especially in the Democrat Party!
