"Taking Out" the Big Guns

Over the last few weeks, Americans have had the benefit of witnessing the far-Left at its most revealing; that is, base, juvenile, mendacious, opportunistic and currently, desperate.
“Bill O’Reilly’s a racist!”
I was asked to appear on a Denver area radio program last week to discuss the dynamics and ramifications of the uproar surrounding Fox News’ broadcaster Bill O’Reilly’s allegedly racist marks following his dinner with civil rights activist Al Sharpton at a restaurant in Harlem (the legendary and predominantly black district of New York City) three weeks ago. O’Reilly’s comments, as one might guess, were not racist but were interpreted as such by elements in the media, civil rights activists and poverty pimps across America. He was descended upon and excoriated by same and compelled to illustrate the demonization and calumny that is standard operating procedure for the far-Left.
The host of the show on which I appeared asked (for the sake of listeners; she already knew the answer) why O’Reilly was being targeted with such vitriol, doggedness and abandon.
“He’s a big gun,” I told my gracious host.
“Rush Limbaugh’s anti-military!”
Then last week, we had the pleasure of incessant media bludgeoning over conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh’s September 26 remarks referencing one Jesse Macbeth, who made headlines (and earned a prison term) after asserting that he and other American soldiers had killed Iraqi civilians. As it turned out, Macbeth’s claims and service record were bogus.
The media and members of Congress, including Democrat Senate Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) ran with the embellished story that Limbaugh had called U.S. military personnel who were against the Iraq war “phony soldiers.” A public relations war ensued, with members of Congress (at Reid’s behest) calling for Clear Channel Communications (Limbaugh's corporate syndicator) to censor him.
Even retired General and one-time Democrat candidate for the Presidential nomination, Wesley Clark, that enormous colloquial descriptor for part of the female reproductive anatomy, demanded that Limbaugh be purged from the airwaves of Armed Forces Radio. This makes perfect sense; it is well-known that Limbaugh’s show is an inspiration to many of those on active duty. Clark’s comments originated from one of the most far-Left blogs on the planet.
While O’Reilly executed a calculated, methodical and efficient campaign to refute the charges of racism against him and exposed media corruption and bias in the process, Limbaugh (a bigger gun compared to O’Reilly in the eyes of the far-Left) opted to get down-and-dirty with his detractors, calling for Reid’s resignation, questioning his patriotism, competence and mental processes – and I can’t say I blame him. Calling the Democrat-controlled Congress “Stalinist-like,” Limbaugh used this opportunity (and, ironically the media) to convey the message that they are indeed dangerous anti-American socialists who wish to see the U.S. fail in Iraq. A great deal of his ammunition was statistical rather than subjective (citing senatorial voting records, imprudent resolutions and low congressional ratings), a wise move on the commentator’s part.
The “phony soldiers” so-called story was, in short, nonexistent, a fabricated attempt at character assassination aimed at Limbaugh. Lest I be accused of party hackdom: For the record, while Limbaugh is valuable and great at what he does, in my judgment he’s a bit too partisan for my taste.
What walks the line between outrageous humor, depressive pathos and near criminality is the palpable desperation of these far-Left Goebbelsian hypocrites and how their abject fear of “big guns” like O’Reilly and Limbaugh has all but reduced them to gibbering, self-destructive insanity. If anyone holds disdain for our military and has compromised them and their mission at every opportunity, it is they. Reid, who Christian television mogul Pat Robertson thought would be a voice of reason in Congress due to his faith, has proved to be the archetypal political prostitute, his rhetoric growing more mealymouthed with each week he cringes in the talons of the harridan House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. For some Americans, I’d wager that his libelous attack on an American citizen – celebrity or no – was the last straw as regards Reid’s credibility.
Although the outrageous level of media coverage quickly grew tedious, it was also indicative of the far-Left’s desperation and need to neutralize anyone of influence who opposes them by any means available. They didn’t expect O’Reilly and Limbaugh to acquit themselves so well, and were no doubt hoping Americans would see them in a bad light – but there’s no substitute for the truth, particularly when the scale of the lie is so colossal.
The “big guns” held up under fire.
One can only draw the conclusion that Americans’ low opinion of Congress at this juncture factors in a Democrat voter or two. One can hope – as I do – that these folks realize the need to take their party back from the far-Left as much as their Republican counterparts need to take theirs back from the RINO (Republican In Name Only) prostitutes who were responsible for losing Congress in the first place
