New Jersey Much Too Costly for State's Taxpayers
By Gordon Bishop (10/30/07)
Why would any hard-working taxpayer want to live in New Jersey, which has the toxic distinction of having America’s highest property taxes, automobile insurance, and countless other taxes and new government surcharges on top of regular taxes?
Our nation was founded in 1776 after a Tax Revolt because Great Britain imposed a tax on tea – remember the “Boston Tea Party?”
In those days, there were no property taxes, no income taxes, no sales taxes and no endless number of taxes and fees on just about everything you purchase, as is the case today.
After 85 years of ‘tax-and-spend ‘and ‘spend-and-tax’ liberalism in the struggling Garden State, residents are finally leaving in droves, with some 40,000 moving out last year, with even more expected this year.
I know from personal experience. My two daughters, ages 42 and 39, may be forced to move to our neighboring states of Delaware and Pennsylvania because they can no longer afford to live in the laughable State of New “Joisey!”
Joining them will be their husbands and their three children.
We’re hoping if our children and their families bail out of this corrupt government state that they will be close enough to their parents so we can drive to their homes in an hour or so.
I just heard that one of the richest entertainers in America – Bon Jovi – is “Moving Out” of his castle in Navasink, New Jersey. Bye, Bye, Bon Jovi – we’ll miss you (and your huge tax contributions to our state, county and local governments).
Living and working in New Jersey has become a real hardship for the besieged middle-class earning less than $75,000 a year.
I’m old enough to remember when anyone making $75,000 a year lived very comfortable in this now economically dying State. In fact, they were wealthy. Those days are long gone.
The latest New Jersey Monmouth University/Gannett Newspapers poll found that half of New Jerseyans want to leave this Far Left liberal state where registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by 2 to 1. There’s no way fiscal conservatives could ever represent the majority of taxpaying voters in New Jersey.
There’s no way out of this fiscal mess! New Jersey is on the brink of bankruptcy.
Those Republican governors who have been elected to two-terms in recent years were both “moderate” Republicans. “Moderate” is the code-word for “Liberal.” You have to be liberal to get elected in New Jersey, even if you’re a declared Republican.
Small businesses, mid-size businesses and even large corporations are leaving New Jersey because they find they can no longer compete with companies from other states, or abroad, in today’s fiercely competitive marketplace.
The Gannett poll asked residents, “What is the top reason you want to move out of New Jersey?” Their responses:
-Property taxes (28 percent)
-Cost of living (19 percent)
-Weather (8 percent)
-High housing costs (6 percent)
-Corruption (6 percent)
-Other taxes (5 percent)
Other (29 percent)
So there you have it.
Most New Jerseyans, or Jerseyites, are heading south to the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, Arizona and other warmer climates in our southern states.
Many of my friends and family members move to Florida so they won’t have to pay New Jersey’s state income tax, which is wasted by inefficient and ineffective government.
Your reward for getting out of New Jersey is more money in your wallet, savings and investment portfolio.
I hope I’m not the last one standing when the only people left are those on government welfare relief, including who knows how many illegal immigrants?
