Huckabee Oked by Evangelicals, Nix Mormon Romney and More
By J. Grant Swank Jr. (11/30/07)
"The god of Mormonism was once a man who was born to human parents on another planet, grew to manhood, lived out his life being obedient to the laws and ordinances of the gospel presented by the god of that world.
“Upon his death and resurrection, he was judged (by his god) as being worthy for godhood” per “Mormonism: Christian or Cult” by Ed Decker.
“The Mormon god was raised to his godhood and sent with many goddess wives to a planet near the great star, Kolob, somewhere in our present galaxy. There, this god and his wives began ‘ëprocreating' or physically begetting ‘spirit’ children.
“We here on this planet are each the offspring of this god and one of his goddesses in this pre-existent Mormon world.”
Evangelicals who are into researching biblical theology versus cultic dogma are on to Mitt Romney’s Mormonism like no other religious grouping.
Evangelicals study Scripture and also delve into those groups which do not measure up to biblical data. Mormons are regarded as in the latter slot. Mormons not only have doctrines counter to biblical detail but also add another book as divine revelation—the Book of Mormon.
This is anathema to evangelicals who hold that the Bible is the only divinely inspired writ. Evangelicals conclude that the Book of Mormon is not only bogus but dangerous to the formulation of biblical theology.
Therefore, evangelicals are warming up far more to evangelical Mike Huckabee while sidelining Romney. Huckabee is considered a fellow believer—biblically sound on such ethics are family, marriage, sex, pro-life as well as championing America’s Judeo-Christian heritage.
Per The New York Times’ Michael Luo: “The religious divide over Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith that his supporters had long feared would occur is emerging in Iowa as he is being challenged in state polls by Mike Huckabee, a former Baptist pastor who has played up his faith in his bid for the Republican presidential nomination.
“Mr. Huckabee’s rise in Iowa — some recent polls now put him in a dead heat with Mr. Romney, who had led surveys for months — has been fueled by evangelical Christians, who believe Mormonism runs counter to Christian orthodoxy.”
Even with fundamentalist Greenville, South Carolina’s Bob Jones University endorsing Romney, evangelicals and other fundamentalists have not followed suit. In fact, the vast majority of evangelicals were stunned at Bob Jones University’s endorsement of a Mormon.
“The Southern Baptist Convention, the denomination Huckabee is a part of, does not consider Mormons to be part of historic Christianity.” In fact, many evangelicals consider Mormonism, along with Jehovah’s Witnesses and Christian Science, a cult. The label “cult” absents a group from traditional, biblically sound Christianity.
“Barbara Heki, 51, from Johnston, Iowa, who began volunteering for Mr. Huckabee over the summer, compared Mr. Romney to Senator John Kerry, the Massachusetts Democrat who was dogged by accusations of flip-flopping when he ran for president in 2004. Nevertheless, Ms. Heki admitted that her evangelical faith also figured prominently in her choice.
“’Mormons spend two years of their lives as missionaries, preaching an anti-Christian doctrine,’ she said. ‘I don’t want someone out there, if I can help it, who’s going to be acting on an anti-Christian faith as the basis of their decision-making.’
“The survey found over all that Mr. Romney was in a tight race with Mr. Huckabee, 27 percent to 21 percent. Among evangelicals, 36 percent favored Mr. Huckabee and 22 percent Mr. Romney, even though they said in almost equal numbers that Mr. Romney and Mr. Huckabee each shared the values of most Iowans.
“Danny Carroll, a former speaker pro tem in the Iowa House and Mr. Huckabee’s Iowa campaign co-chairman, said: ‘I think it just causes some uneasiness as to how somebody is going to respond when heavy responsibility is placed on them. I think the Christian would like to know that the person has a strong anchor and prays to the God of the Bible.’
“At a recent Huckabee event in Iowa, Glenda Gherkey, an evangelical from Evansdale, posed a question to the candidate.
“’I’m concerned a lot of Christians are thinking about the values issues and forgetting about the creator behind the values issues,’ Ms. Gherkey said. ‘I guess I feel like this country and this world needs a president who would be able to pray to the God of the Bible and he would be able to hear his prayers.’
“She wondered, Would Mr. Romney’s prayers ‘even get through’?”
Evangelicals who conclude Mormonism a cult do conclude that Mormons’ prayers to God do not “get through” because they are not actually petitioning the God of the Bible but a deity of a cultic base.

Now to Huckabee's overview regarding Hillary Clinton's impact on the current campaign. Huckabee told media today that he is on to Hillary tactics like no other GOP candidate.
Per Paul Bedant of USNEWS, Huckabee has wrestled in the same political ditches as both Clintons. Therefore, he is savvy to their tricks and can outsmart them. The other GOP hopefuls have no idea what that kind of political warfare is like.
Huckabee, a moralist who champions biblical ethics regarding marriage, family, sex and life, is at the other end of the Clinton spectrum. Clinton is for death to unborn children, death to the biblical definition of marriage and family, death to the biblical sex morality and death to the Judeo-Christian heritage in America.
Huckabee knows Clinton’s immoral agenda is diametrically opposed to his dream for this country. Huckabee believes in the God of Scripture.
Clinton accommodates her religion so as to be opportunistic, giving forth religious jargon to please her audience. She can be theologically liberal with the anti-God. She can sound biblically aligned when behind a black congregation’s sanctuary pulpit.
Huckabee, on to Clinton’s immoral base as well as her underhanded strategies, calls on the grassroots to support his traditional morality for America’s soul good.
“Surging Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee today said that his success in Democratic Arkansas proves that he has the background and training to take on the Clinton political machine on the national stage.
"’None of them have ever run against the Clinton political machine,’ he told reporters in a conference call today, referring to other GOP candidates. ‘That means something.’
“Huckabee's history as governor of Arkansas is an unusual one; he became a rare statewide-elected Republican in a state where the old Clinton political machine is still in operation. In answering questions from U.S. News, he said that Sen. Hillary Clinton's operation is very similar to the old Bill Clinton campaign, mostly because both share the same operatives and tactics.”
Living daily with the Clinton lies and deceit machine is exactly what Huckabee has had to deal with. It’s been in the air he was forced to filter.
Huckabee referred to USNEWS that Hillary Clinton is “’ruthless’” and therefore must be hit head-on. With that, Huckabee is working hard for votes not only in Iowa but then New Hampshire and South Carolina.
“He plans to spend all of December in Iowa, where he is in a statistical dead heat with Mitt Romney. His recent surge in Iowa and New Hampshire polls has translated into more donations.”
Finally, good news for Huckabee comes from Lynchburg, Virginia.
While Pat Robertson supports theological and political liberal Rudy Giuliani and Bob Jones University administration supports Mormon Mitt Romney, Jerry Fallwell, Jr. supports evangelical conservative Mike Huckabee.
It’s time that evangelical voices come out in force for Huckabee. It is a mystery why there are laggards among us.
Per NBC contributor Jenny Anzelmo and NBC's Lauren Appelbaum: “’My father supported Huckabee before he was number two in the polls,’ Falwell said.
“’He’s my choice, yes,’ Falwell said to cheers from students and a smile from Huckabee (who was university guest speaker).
“While this is a personal endorsement and not an endorsement from the university, it is valuable as Huckabee’s campaign continues to grow momentum.”
Huckabee is without doubt a biblical believer holding to scriptural ethics regarding the unborn, family, marriage, sex, public morality, and upholding America’s Judeo-Christian heritage.
The evangelical grassroots holds to this same Christian moral base. It will be interesting to note how aggressive the grassroots becomes in months ahead when unfortunately their evangelical spokespersons nationally are strangely silent.
This silence could be an invitation to liberals such as Giuliani to fill in the political void. That surely cannot happen if evangelicals hope to bring our Republic back to its biblical moorings.
If there is any block that will fight tooth and nail to stop Huckabee it is the theological and political liberal cadre. They include the likes of Hillary Clinton and clique as well as the Hollywood celeb crew. Of course New Age persons such as Oprah Winfrey will way in against Huckabee because they consider him a religious hick, to put it bluntly.
Evangelicals in general are considered cultural lags. They oppose evolution. They endorse homeschooling. They stand alongside Christ and His teachings as set forth in the Gospel records. They believe in the power of prayer, personal conversion through saving grace and the Bible as the spiritual guide for mortals.
All of this is anathema to liberals, including the religious-appearing Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. These two, for instance, parade their religiosity but the latter is anti-Bible morality. These two persons, as other liberals, write their own religion, opportunistic to the nth degree. They define their own morality which in reality is immorality.
If Huckabee continues to gain support at the grassroots he will need not only the “little persons’” encouragement but that of “name” evangelical leadership throughout America, the latter now particularly muffled.
It is heartening that Jerry Fallwell, Jr. has now taken the lead. May others follow in his footsteps.
“The Liberty students received Huckabee well. When asked why younger voters should support him, Huckabee called himself a ‘vertical thinker’ and said younger people are ‘more interested in what you going to do.’
“As evidence of this youth support, after the endorsement, many Liberty University students asked fellow classmates to sign a petition for Huckabee to be on the Virginia ballot.
“Liberty student Kate Rundele said she agrees ‘with him on pretty much everything’ and stressed the importance of having a Christian president -- even taking the opportunity to say Mitt Romney does not fall in this category.
“Josh Covert, another student, said the prospect of Romney becoming president is ‘a scary situation.’ They both stressed their beliefs that Romney would push a Mormon agenda on the American public.
“Liberty University has yet to give an official endorsement, but the LU board of directors has voiced their support for the governor. Jerry’s brother Jonathan Falwell has also given Huckabee a personal endorsement.”
