'Why Not Just Choose The Smartest - Romney?'
By J. Grant Swank Jr. (02/02/08)
Mitt Romney is the most intelligent and articulate of the Republican candidates.
Then why not pit Romney against the Dems? Romney would win.
Forget Romney’s Mormonism. Put first his moralist lifestyle that includes pro-life and pro-family as defined by the Bible.
If he has “a past” regarding political flip-flop, why not believe his political conservatism conversion? It just might be fact. It’s worth the chance.
Republicans are taking just as much a gamble on John McCain’s conversion from nearly-Dem to conservative Republican. So why not go with the most knowledgeable Romney rather than the intelligent-gaps McCain?
Evangelicals will find in Romney a moral underpinning like their own, sans theology. It’s the moral underpinning that evangelicals want in a President. Then choose Romney.
Romney is impressive when speaking on any prime topic. He knows his history. He knows his present-tense data. Romney can recite with aplomb his positions because his brain has studied them and made them his own.
He speaks most impressively when asked questions by the media. He’s got the presidential presence besides.
Would Romney choose Mike Huckabee for a running mate? He’s given no indication that he would. But then again he might. If so, the two moralists would present to Judeo-Christian heritage America an ethical front that conservatives are hoping for.
