Rangel Rants
By Doug Hagin (07/29/03)
Remember the TV show “ Kids Say the Darndest Things”? It featured kids and their sometimes off the wall and hilarious comments on various questions and topics. It was entertaining, and a joy to watch. Well like kids, our American politicians sometimes say some things we can not quite believe.
In the case of Democrat Charles Rangel, of New York, they sometimes say things, which frankly disgust us. Following the recent deaths of Saddam Hussein’s sons Uday and Qusay several Democrats chose not to give credit to our military for hunting down these evil men who have brought misery and suffering to untold thousands in Iraq.
Some criticized the fact we did not capture them, forgetting obviously the fact our troops gave them chances to surrender. Some have chosen to criticize the Bush administration for showing the images of these two butchers on TV. Again overlooking the fact that the Iraqi people needed visual proof of the deaths.
These criticisms were rather distasteful and frankly showed just how out of touch and desperate the Democratic Party is.
After being so critical of the fact we had not gotten Saddam or his sons, they should have had the class to at least praise our troops. Clearly while America is moving to the right the Democrats are moving left politically speaking.
Rangel’s comments went well beyond the rest of his party though. They went far past political partisanship. While his fellow Democrats were just looking childish and petty Rangel looked frankly anti-American.
Rangel, who is known for hyperbolic statements, called the deaths of Saddam’s son’s illegal. He called them assassinations, and mocked the number of troops it took, according to him, to track down Uday and Qusay.
Now disagreeing with the president’s policies is one thing. Voicing said disagreement is one thing. However, characterizing the actions of our military as “illegal”, goes far, far beyond political speech and well into the realm of sheer asininity. And surely the comments of Mr. Rangel has found the bottom of the pit of inanity and proceeded to start digging. Of course Mr. Rangel is not a stranger to hateful and foolish statements. Not too long ago he commented that Republicans do not say the “N” word anymore instead they say tax cuts. Take some time to let the ridiculousness of that statement to sink in.
In case Mr. Rangel missed it we are at war with Saddam and his former regime of terror. His sons, who have brutalized, tortured, killed and raped tens of thousands of Iraqis were responsible for much of the resistance that has been killing our brave troops.
Of course Rangel and other Democrats have been busy beating the drums of discontent over the deaths of our troops by this very resistance. So one might think that the deaths of Uday and Qusay would bring the mood of the Democrats up.
Not so apparently. In fact the claim by Rush Limbaugh that good news for America equals bad news for Democrats is being proven by the ravings of Rangel and other Democrats like Bob Graham and Howard Dean.
So perhaps the comments of Mr. Rangel are not too hard to understand. He is clearly a bitter, angry, and desperate man. One might surely expect such a man to make absurd statements. And certainly Rangel has delivered.
He, like the rest of his party has been trying to discredit George W. Bush since the election of 2000. Thus far they have been abject failures in this endeavor. They have tried accusing him of stealing the election, giving tax cuts for the rich, lying, going to war unjustly, ruining the economy, and soon will likely accuse him of not brushing after ever meal.
In all their attempts to hurt Bush and his bid for re-election in 2004 they have come up well, well short. So they have become more desperate and openly hostile and bitter as next year’s election looms closer and closer. Mr. Rangel’s comments are clear examples of the downward spiral of the Democrats hopes in 2004.
That this man has sunk to the level of seeming more angry at our military for ending the reign of terrorists and mass murderers than at the deeds they committed shows not just a desperation but a real look of depravity in the Democratic Party.
Of course for Republicans this is very good news. The further removed from sanity the Democrats stray the better the chances Republicans will gain seats in both the House and Senate next year. The more the Democrats rant the surer the re-election of Bush in 2004. And with Supreme Court vacancies more and more likely the better our chances of getting a true Conservative majority soon.
So Mr. Rangel keep flapping your jaws. Your rants, as disgusting as they are, are helping the Republicans.
