Senator McCain continues to act aloof and act as thou his is candidacy for President doesn't depend on voters to allow him to succeed?

If Huckabee, Romney and Thompson (HRT) came together and generated a mutual campaign, as write ins if necessary, McCain's campaign would become a sideline!

The HRT "party" would toast the Demercrat candidate. This would represent a "true change" in the political direction of the USA. And the DNC and RNC would get a seriously deserved slap in the face.

Each of the HRT members had various failings, but the combination could be a real winner. With an open contract with voters, their would be little doubt about who to vote for...

A novel approach would be to have the President and Vice President be decided based on which HRT candidate received the most electoral votes.

Election law determines the President, but I know of no law that declares who will be Vice President. The HRT Vice President would be delegated more duties and responsibilities regards the day to day operations of the Executive.

Whoever else was left would become Secretary Of State.

Senator McCain stop being an elitist and work to deserve votes! This ain't no sure thing! 150,000,000 or so Americans are looking over your shoulder.
