More Political Correctness From The Left
By Doug Hagin (05/20/03)
It is nice to know how some of us are dealing with a dangerous world isn’t it? During this time of threats of terror attacks against our citizens and during this time of war those on the far, far, far left wing are still finding time to be offended over nothing.
Worry about terrorism? National security? Securing our borders? No, forget those very real dangers the political correctness nuts are busy worrying about offensive paintings.
This latest tale of politically correct inanity comes to us from James City, Virginia. At a Radisson hotel there a group of judges and court officials attending a judicial conference demanded the management cover two paintings of Civil War battles.
Why would historical paintings deserve such scorn? Why they contained the dreaded Confederate flag in them of course. So the hotel management, instead of telling the conference attendees to get a life and grow up caved in, covered the paintings with sheets for the duration of the conference.
Another example of a few whiny, all too easily offended leftists being rewarded for being ignorant and petty.
Yes one would have to be petty in the extreme to take offense at a historical painting. If these judges and court officials are so thin-skinned they can not tolerate some historically accurate paintings how are they fit to do their jobs?
Would an adult be so shallow and weak to honestly expect this hotel, the Radisson Fort Magruder Hotel and Conference Center which is named for a Confederate general, and is decorated in a civil war theme, to change it’s identity just to soothe their pathetic egos?
And yes that is what this is about. A few people think they have the right to dictate what is offensive and what is fit for public display. And these people see no problem at all with forcing their very narrow-minded views on the rest of us. For all the talk from the left about open-mindedness and tolerance these leftists only think their opinions matter.
Everyone else who might hold a differing view does not matter in the least to the politically correct. The only sensitivity the politically correct feel is for those who think like they do. Anyone not following the strict guidelines of political correctness and hypersensitivity deserves no sensitivity at all according to the dogma of the far left.
The sheer and utter intolerance of these folks is only part of the issue though. The current trend for everyone from business leaders to politicians to cower every time these radicals raise a fuss is equally frightening.
All the baseless protestations and imagined offenses of the politically correct would quickly go away if they were only given the amount of attention they merit. Instead everyone from the media to these hotel managers seem all too willing to surrender all common sense and reason to the forces of political correctness.
If this pattern continues we all will soon lose the ability to live as we choose. Already too many are terrified of being accused of racism, or sexism, or some other fabricated ism. The ultimate goal of the left is to silence all opposing voices through whatever means necessary. And making people afraid of being labeled a racist will do just fine.
Imagine living everyday in fear for your job, your reputation, or your scholastic future. This is becoming a reality today because so many have given in too easily to silly complaints from easily offended politically correct types. Instead of sating them these surrenders only drove them to complain more. Now we are living in a world where we must all walk on eggshells or suffer the consequences.
So now the times are changing rapidly. Every day we can read of some new absurdity from kids being suspended from school for playing cops and robbers to people being fired for saying the word “niggardly.” This must not continue my friends.
We must bring back common sense and reason to our daily lives. If not soon we will all be afraid to open our mouths or express an opinion lest the wrong person hear us. If a hotel with a Civil War theme, in an area touched by that war can be cowed to cover its paintings then how long till the rest of us must silence ourselves out of fear?
So it is time for us to take a stand. It is time those who are fed up with PC to say “no more!” We must send a message not only to the politically correct but also to those, which enable them as well. Maybe the message should be this; if you cave in to the politically correct then you lost my vote, or lost my business, whichever the case.
Face it my friends political correctness will not just go away. Instead it is working its way into our daily lives. Is this acceptable to you?
