America Is At War And Is Winning
By Doug Hagin (03/24/03)
America is at war and is winning. The outcome is not really in doubt, but there are still going to be some casualties on our side. In fact there already have been losses of some of our brave troops. And yes there will be more.
This is the very ugly reality of war though. Brave soldiers fight and sometimes they die. God bless these heroes and their families. Let all of America weep with them for their loss, and let us all honor their memories and never forget their sacrifice.
It is because of such sacrifices and such bravery that America remains strong and free. Make no mistake; freedom and liberty are not free. And sometimes the cost of freedom has to be paid with human lives.
As the war rolls on, and more American soldiers are wounded or killed those elements in our nation, which do not think freedom is worth fighting for, will become more vocal. And yes, the right to protest is indeed their right. In fact it is one of the rights our troops are defending right now.
These protests are very un-American in their nature though. They are not directed against our enemies. They are not directed at the terrorists we are battling and wiping out. These protests are not aimed at those who support and aid the terrorists we are waging war on.
Instead these protests, many of them crossing the lines of legality, are directed at us. At our troops, our military, our President and yes at the very freedom America enjoys. Odd indeed to see people using the freedom America offers and honors to protest against those defending those freedoms, and, in fact those very freedoms themselves.
These protests and those who are sponsoring them and participating in them truly raise some questions as to their mental development and sanity. Some of these protesters for "peace" have threatened to block traffic. Others in San Francisco have held vomit sessions to show how sick war makes them.
Another died after falling from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. All of this to show their disapproval of our war on Iraq. Of course genuine dissent and protest are bedrock principles which America is founded upon. Hating war and its necessity is understandable. No one wants war after all. But these protesters were nowhere to be found during the Clinton administration's attacks on Iraq and Kosovo were they?
No they were very silent for people so gravely offended by war. Of course Jeannine Garofolo, who is one of Hollywood's leading nutcases, has explained that it just was not hip to protest against Bill Clinton. How sad is it that this actually makes some sense to these people?
And what exactly does it say about the level of their anti-war convictions? How shallow their feelings must be to stay silent when one President wages war and then to scream like banshees when another acts in a similar fashion. I guess being hip matters more than their deeply held convictions. It certainly seems to matter more than patriotism.
These protesters will continue their insidious diatribe against America. Accusing us of targeting and killing thousands of innocent Iraqis, and damning our supposedly imperialistic war for oil. Yet once more the question must be posed to these self-appointed protectors of human life. Where were they when Saddam Hussein killed thousands of Iraqis? Where were their cries for humanity when he gassed the Kurds?
It would appear to anyone with an open mind these protesters seem only to care about Iraqi life if we accidentally take one. Let Saddam butcher tens of thousands and these protesters remain silent. But as soon as our military strikes to remove this barbarian they begin to howl. Despite our every effort to have no civilian casualties and to protect the Iraqi people they will still call us murderers. How dare they? How dare these hypocrites? Another question must be asked of these protesters who so willingly exercise their freedom here while thousands of troops risk their lives to bring the same liberty to Iraq. Why are the Iraqi people undeserving of freedom? Those protesting this war which will free Iraq from an evil dictator, must think the Iraqi people undeserving of liberty. After all if they had their way, Saddam would remain in power to terrorize his own people.
Surely those protesting this war appreciate the right to protest. Surely they know no such right exists in Iraq. So why should the people of Iraq not have the freedom these protesters do?
Why would they hold such a low opinion of these people? Why would they use their freedom here to deny the very same freedom to the Iraqi people? Surely their compassionate nature and their hatred for war and oppression seem to be very suspect when applied to the real world.
The truth is they seem to hate America, not war, or evil, or brutality.
