'America's Future: Conservatism,Or Liberalism?'
By Gordon Bishop (06/11/08)
For those of you who have been reading my weekly syndicated columns over the past 12 years know that I am neither a Democrat nor Republican, but a fiscally conservative Libertarian.
In other words, a free speech Independent.
The big issue in this year’s election is not a choice between two U.S. Senators campaigning to be President – John McCain, a Republican, and Barak Obama, a Democrat.
The choice is Free Speech Vs. the “Fairness Doctrine.”
The Fairness Doctrine – another proposed Leftist anti-American federal law – has only one purpose: To silence and censor conservative talk radio. These are highly successful conservative talk shows attracting more than 30 million listeners a week, led by Rush Limbaugh with more than 20 million listeners, followed by his protégé Sean Hannity, with 14 million daily listeners, plus Hannity’s own weekly TV show every evening and his latest popular national show called “Hannity’s America” at 9 p.m. on Sundays (Eastern Standard Time).
Here’s what happened when liberals tried to take over “America’s airwaves:” They routinely got trounced in the ratings by conservative shows.
Why? It’s called the free market!
Conservative shows are successful and popular because they have an audience.
Liberals don’t!
That’s why liberal National Public Radio (NPR) can only survive through donations and federal grants (our limited tax dollars being wasted on socialist blabber).
And that’s why the leftist Air America syndicate was thrown into bankruptcy.
Bottom line: Liberal talk show radio does not sell and cannot survive on its own. It only works when subsidized or has no other competition.
Which is why the Left is once again pushing the Fairness Doctrine, according to Media Research Center, based in Alexandria, Virginia, and headed by Brent Bozell III, Founder and President.
Why isn’t the fundamentally conservative America not leading the charge in stopping the Fairness Doctrine in its tracks?
They don’t yet see the danger in the ultimate loss of “Freedom of Speech” in such a radical doctrine!
I and many other fiscally conservative Independents see the damage that can be done if the Fairness Doctrine becomes law.
The mission of the Media Research Center is to expose, counter and neutralize the bias of Charles Gibson, Brian Williams, Katie Couric (the TV anchors for ABC, NBC and CBS, respectively), and CNN, MSNBC and other liberal media who love to minimize and put down American Conservatism.
Frankly, I’m surprised that the conservatives have taken over the electronic media, including the Internet, which is everyone’s “Global Village.”
It’s time to jump on the FREEDOM OF SPEECH PETITION TO THE PRESIDENT bandwagon, before it’s too late.
As a journalist, author, historian and syndicated columnist over the past 49 years, my last battle at this stage of my life (almost 71 years old) is to fight to the bitter end the rights of our First Amendment in our sacred U.S. Constitution: Freedom of Speech!
America is already a socialist society, with a tax-and-spend Big Government that is out of control and bringing us to the brink of bankruptcy.
I don’t want to be around when the USA implodes, which could happen in the next 3 years or so.
As always, God Bless America!
