Budweiser, the Great AMERICAN Lager!
By Doug Edelman (06/21/08)
In another example of how America is being sold off piecemeal to foreign interests - and of the slow death by disintigration of the American culture... Anheuser Bush, THE name in American Beer, is now the target of a hostile takeover by Belgian brewer, InBev.
WAZZZUP?
Budweiser, the flagship brew, bills itself as the "Great American Lager". Perhaps soon it will no longer be. Instead it'll be Belgian!
"Weekends were made for Michelob." But soon Michelob may be made for InBev!
On Capitol Hill, lawmakers posture and protest - but won't do anything to stop it... because they SHOULDN'T! It is not the place of Government to intrude on marketplace business transactions - even if we don't like them! Who wants more Government interference in private enterprise anyway?
Our elected officials may frown on the buyout, but the american people are the ones with the power to stop it. The Marktetplace itself wields much power! There is no greater economic force than united consumers!
Warren Buffett, a major shareholder of Anheuser Busch, has indicated he looks FAVORABLY upon the InBev buyout offer. His influence alone may determine whether or not the buyout goes through.
While Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has MANY holdings, the following list would be very easy to bring economic action against which would get Mr. Buffett’s attention!
Benjamin Moore & Co.
Fruit of the Loom®
GEICO Auto Insurance
Helzberg Diamonds
H.H. Brown Shoe Group
International Dairy Queen, Inc.
The Pampered Chef®
See's Candies
Should Buffet continue to support the sellout of A-B to Belgian brewer, InBev – perhaps our choosing not to patronize Buffett’s subsidiary companies and promising not to buy Belgian Bud might change his mind. Buffet currently sees only the value of the InBev offer. Unless he sees an associated COST with going forward, the people's sentiments about Anheuser Busch will not be a factor for him. Buffett will only be persuaded by a tide of public opposition to him and his companies if he doesn't tell InBev "This Bud's NOT for YOU!"
If you choose to withhold your patronage from these businesses, please be sure to write Berkshire Hathaway and let them know!
