Newspapers Self-Destructing
By Malcolm Hedges (06/26/08)
Multiple Newspapers are hemorrhaging staff and pages. Some of it is attributable to poor management, however I suggest that most of the demise of newsprint is their own fault.
These "rags" spend all of their efforts on promoting the Progressive Left agenda and echoing the stuff issued by the Associated Progressives "news service".
Some loss of circulation can be attributed to the Internet, but most is because people want news in their "Newspapers" and it pretty much doesn't exist.
It's pretty much a given that the first newspaper in any given major market to start offering news instead of political pap and rubber stamp content, and then promote it on Radio and TV will have huge jumps in circulation and advertising and then profits.
It is probably a good thing that the "newspaper industry" is final getting it's due! They have increased the cost of their "product" to the point that is truly not inviting. The big rag here in the Phoenix area now wants $0.50 for a daily and $1.00 for their Saturday offering? As the price has escalated the content has shrunk?
Perhaps it's time to return to $0.25 for Monday thru Saturday and $0.50 on Sunday? People that subscribe should get a flat 10% discount and that's it!
There are a couple of publications in the Phoenix area that are totally free and still manage to make money.
I'm setting waiting for a real newspaper, when it comes I will buy it and read it. I'm also pretty sure that a lot of other people will do the same.
