It's Time to Worry about Global COOLING

Guest Opinion/Commentary*

'All to save our planet?'
By Carolyn Hileman (07/04/08)

We have heard for the umpteenth time that we need to cut energy consumption, why everyone from the movie stars to Al Gore has told us how we are just using too much electricity. All of this stems of course from the fact that president Bush did not mandate that we cut back as an attempt to cut costs for the war effort. Time recently had an article talking about how we should turn off our air conditioners because we deserve to sweat since Bush did not make us sacrifice. I must admit some of these people are really starting to make me angry since you and I both know his article was written in a high rise office with A/C on a nice computer and he dares tell us the little people we deserve to sweat. Or dear little Al who is so concerned about the earth that he upped his energy usage, but we need to cut corners somewhere so I say the TV.

My plan will have a retroactive effect if used properly first of all turn off the TV when ever the news comes on, now if there is something else on, on another channel by all means watch that since you will be using it for its primary purpose to entertain. However, by simply refusing to watch the news and any program that has as its subject global warming or how to live green you will save the earth from global warming. How can you say that, you ask it is really very simple if we do not watch them, the programs will be taken off the air and they will be forced to shut up thereby stopping a lot of hot air, and of course that will stop global warming.

I know that sounds silly but lets get real here shall we I don’t know about you but I am concerned about my planet, I will not knowingly do anything to harm it but these people have gone insane. They have TV shows on all the networks to tell us how we need to cut back, they even have an entire network called the green network and in 2010 we will be required to stop using the old light bulbs and change to the new ones which are made in China and are full of Mercury. Now tell me if you can how we are saving our planet by mandating that every house in America have light bulbs full of mercury, in my house alone there are 19 light sockets inside, 19 and our house is only a three bedroom single story home that will be housing mercury. An element that has been phased out in use in thermometers because of safety concerns will now be in every light socket in every house in the United States and our global warming hawks do not see any problem here? Then there is the simple fact of cost, those things are already expensive but when an entire country starts using them and it starts to run short or the Chinese figure out that without lights we are in trouble we are going to be right back here, it will be the same as gas.

Increased demand will cause the prices to sky rocket and of course we will not be able to go back to our old light bulbs because the factories will have all shut down and we will be forced once again to deal with the devil to survive. Instead of making us energy independent we will be once again dependent on another country and all the while we will have turned our homes into a dumping ground for mercury all to save our planet?

A Piece Of My Mind

…one of your favorite reads in 1996 was It Takes a Village to Raise a Child, by Hillary Rodham Clinton, which means you probably agreed with the author’s assessment of public schools and how well equipped they are to provide a first-rate education to our kids.
Ed. Note: Why didn’t the Clintons send Chelsea to public school?
