Editorial: True Democracy Is Mob Rule
By Editor (08/25/08)
Democracy is tossed around by Politicians and 'Journalists' on a continuing basis without regards to the actual implications.
True Democracy means that a simple majority gets full control. If 200,000,000 people vote and one side gets 100,000,001 votes the other 99,000,099 votes, the losers are under the rule of the other group.
The gang that formed the USA realized this was a major problem, so the USA was established as a Democratic Republic. Mob rule is precluded by the Electoral College for Presidential Elections and other little twists that require strange majorities of 60, 66 and 75% to make things law.
Many of the basic concepts of Democracy were incorporated, the bad stuff was strong armed to stifle abuse.
In our some 58 states (according to Comrade Obama) each of them generally has a voice as one equal to all. Despite accumulated population, no single state or group of states can take control of the Republic unless a significant majority of those 58? states agree.
Each state gets 2 Senators, no matter how huge it is. Each State gets a percentage of the total members of the House roughly based on its percentage of the total population of the USA.
As a result some sort of mix that kinda represents Democracy is formed and at the same time makes sure Democratic mob rule is thwarted.
A certain political faction in the USA has managed to garner a problematic simple majority regards the Presidential elections and is demanding that the Electoral College be eliminated and replaced by a simple majority of popular votes to elect the President. If that scheme works, the Republic is toast, no matter who prevails.
When you hear politicians ranting about Democracy, read between the lines and make sure they aren't really advocating political anarchy!
