Obama, Boxer and FOCA
By Terrance Huiskens (12/17/08)
Yesterday, I was having a pretty good day. My kids were running around smiling and laughing. My little boy said a new word ("yellow") and actually gave me a kiss on the cheek rather than a slap. Publishers Clearing House didn't knock on my door whilst holding a big check with my name on it or anything, but the day was going relatively well until the mail came. And no, the cable bill didn't upset me.
The Right to Life of Michigan newsletter, however, did.
I'm always a little agitated when I receive these letters, because, to me, it's a shame citizens like myself need to join groups like Right to Life. In fact, groups like Right to Life shouldn't even exist. In a country as great as the United States, it's a shame the unborn need an interest group.
This particular newsletter, however, was significantly more distressing. Instead of reading about all the progress we have made in the fight to end the macabre act that is abortion, I was forced to thumb over a pamphlet informing me of how close we are to seeing our progress completely extirpated by Obama and his socialist agenda.
That's right. I'm speaking of the infamous Freedom of Choice Act. A radical pro-abortion amendment designed to deracinate laws, policies or actions which "deny or interfere with" a woman's "right" to choose. The brainchild of anti-life Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), FOCA would likely abrogate the ban on partial-birth abortion even though it was ruled Constitutional. In fact, this barbaric amendment was designed shortly after Gonzales v. Carhart, the Supreme Court case which upheld the ban. A woman seeking a late-term abortion would only have to claim health problems, including emotional distress, to obtain one if FOCA is passed. Indeed, the pro-abortion Barbara Boxer sure had her considering cap on in making sure the term "health" was left undefined.
If FOCA is passed, the progress we have made in my state, Michigan, will be destroyed:
- Ultrasound Viewing Option would be gone
- Abortion pre-payment ban would be gone
- Informed consent would be gone
- Many clinic regulations would be gone
- Complications reporting would be gone
- Parental consent for abortion would be gone
- Conscience Cause for abortion would be gone
- Taxpayer-funded abortions would be reinstated
Any prolife liberals meandering about thinking President-elect Obama will bust out a veto should this act land on his desk, think again. Remember, I said progress was close to being extirpated by Obama and his socialist agenda.
Speaking to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund on July 17, 2007, the then Senator Obama said:"The first thing I'd do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing I'd do."
Sorta takes the wind out of the Democrats For Life sail, huh?
The bottom line: The radicals have taken over and they're ready to erode the foundation of this great nation even more. I was able to tolerate people like President-elect Obama at first, and was in fact a little excited for him and the African American community when he won. I just didn't realize how radical he actually is. I owe an apology to all the conservatives who tried to tell me how much Obama and Lenin have in communist...I mean, common.
Please, in all candor, call or write your Senators and Congressmen and tell them to vote "nay" on the Freedom of Choice Act. We cannot let the Far Left implement their cruel agenda.
