Coming Home As Heroes Or Is Our Military Being De-Moralized?
By Debbie Daniel (02/16/04)
If I hear one more time that George W. Bush lied to us, I think I’m going to let out a “Dean-Scream.” What is wrong with us? George Bush did exactly what any other man or woman would have done under the same circumstances, so why be so pious and point the finger now?
In fact, I’m going to spare you the roll call of politicians who made the same clarion call that we should do something about the weapons of mass destruction. Sadly for them, we have the exact quotes on record for the entire world to see, but now many of them seem to be back-peddling.
If they can repeat over and over on enough sound bites that say just the opposite, they don’t fear the American people hearing the truth. This is how we get “programmed” to believe what they say and never challenge their “demand of the day.” We must think as they would have us think; thus we become mind-numbed robots.
Many democrats stood strong on the very same information that our president had been given, and were as outspoken as he. But now when it looks like we had “bad” intelligence, all we hear is: “George Bush lied to me and that’s the only reason I said what I did about going to war and finding weapons of mass destruction. Had I known the TRUTH, I would never blah . . . blah . . . blah . . . .”
What cowards you are! At least George Bush is willing to stand there and take it like a man. I doubt he likes being given false information either, and I feel confident he’ll get to the bottom of it, but please don’t make us believe he contrived this “growing danger.”
If he’s that deceitful, he would have also found a place - long before now - to have revealed large stockpiles of the chemical and biological weapons. Why, he could have had them manufactured and ready for “discovery” to avoid this backlash. If you don’t think “that” is possible, how can you in your wildest dreams believe he concocted this whole war scenario? Have we lost our minds?
If you think Howard Dean showed a side of himself that didn’t look so “Presidential,” we’re starting to show a side of ourselves that doesn’t look so “American.” Who are we anymore? Look at us.
We’re making our soldiers feel like fools rather than heroes.
Go ahead and make them feel trivial over a war that was fought because their Commander-in-Chief lied to them. Say it enough, and when there’s a threat of another 9/11, you might need to grab your own rifle, because there may be no troops willing to defend you in battle.
And what will you tell them then? “The president lied to you the first time, but now he’s telling the truth?” Hmm, that would certainly energize me.
Does John Kerry need another Viet Nam to feel justified and victorious in his rebellion against it? Does he need another protestor’s platform where he can make a show of throwing his medals away? Why give the impression of throwing away all your medals of honor when you really didn’t? Isn’t that a lie? Looks like one to me.
For someone who’s using his heroic “military” record as a platform to run for President of the United States, it seems strange that this is the same man that denounced that same “military” record years ago. I can almost hear him say: “I was totally against the war in Viet Nam, but look how courageous I was while I was there.” What kind of deceit is this, Mr. Kerry? And you think Howard Dean has a problem?
And then we hear on the campaign stump from General Wesley Clark as he admonishes the president for “prancing around on the deck of an aircraft carrier in a flight suit.” He says, “We’re not going to let him get away with that and we’re not going to let the Republicans say it was okay.”
But little Wesley can pose on the front of Advocate Magazine (a national gay and lesbian news magazine) sporting an open shirt over a v-neck t-shirt revealing a machismo appearance for all his gay readers. Did you need to be more appealing to your audience, General?
While on the campaign trail, Clark’s wife has been very upset over the pejorative comments from some of her husband’s former fellow officers. Gertrude Clark cannot understand one fellow officer talking against another. Hmm . . . neither can I, Gertrude.
It bothers me that your husband, a former Four-Star General, spews hate-speech at a sitting Commander-in-Chief, while we’re at war. Does that concern you, Gertrude? And you’re worried that Wesley’s friends don’t like him anymore? Ma’am, I hate to break this to you, but nearly his whole fraternity of soldiers won’t even vote for him.
It’s so hard to keep hearing what a bad country we are and to hear the Democrats shouting: “We’re going to take it back.” So, I ask . . .“Who took it?” When you hear it’s the best it’s been in twenty years, or it’s the worst in this century, don’t you begin to feel there’s a dog-fight going on?
If I didn’t know better, I would believe our country is getting ready for a DIVORCE. We are not united - can’t seem to get along anymore. I’m beginning to feel the pain of a child whose parents are separating. I’ve listened to all the arguing of how bad each side is and the tension becomes unbearable. I want to go to my room, shut the door and hide till all the shouting stops.
The Democrats are doing everything they can to demoralize – not only our military – but the rest of us, too. We’re all being made to feel like morons. The liberals want to win at all costs, and “Hating Bush” is the message of the moment. Is it really worth it? Is it worth the sacrifice our soldiers have made?
