Are You Ready For Some Politics?
By Debbie Daniel (02/12/04)
I’m reminded of Hank Williams, Jr.’s song years ago on Monday Night Football as he would belt out, “Are you ready for some football?” Right now there are a lot of men, AND women, going through “withdrawals” with the ending of a great NFL season. And the ending was on such a sour note that many feel the New England Patriot’s victory was snatched away by all the attention given to the half-time show antics.
It’s a shame, but that’s how a great year ended.
The Superbowl of 2004 will be remembered more for Janet Jackson’s desire to stir a crowd with her “titillating” performance alongside Justin Timberlake rather than the fine performance of MVP Tom Brady throwing for 354 yards and three touchdowns, plus Adam Vinatieri’s game winning field goal of 41 yards. The Panthers and Patriots played their hearts out but did not receive near the coverage that the entertainment at half-time did.
If Janet Jackson had had a bit more “coverage”, the chatter the next day may have been more about the great plays and kicks of those awesome players. But, oh no, The-let-me-show-you-what-I’ve-got-Janet, was determined to be the main attraction, and center stage was not for the Superbowl athletes.
Well, now that it’s over, the sportscasters will soon be replaced with non-stop political pundits trying to get us hyped for the election season that is upon us.
It’s time to lure the American public into the sport of politics, and time to pick the warrior who will obliterate George Bush from the face of the earth. It’s a “shoot-to-kill” mentality out there, so watch out.
Some of the Democrats are on a “search and destroy mission,” and George Bush is the only prey of choice.
The President kicked off the official season this past Sunday morning with a Tim Russert interview to let us know – that though we haven’t heard from him in his own defense – he’s there.
Some folks want him to respond to every charge. But he can’t do that or they’ll certainly accuse him of being AWOL . . . from the presidency. He can’t win with these people.
I’ve been surprised how he’s been able to stay in a dead heat position while nine, then seven, now four contenders pummel him with daily allegations ranging from going AWOL in the Texas National Guard to being a murderer like Adolf Hitler. He stands taller in my estimation by not falling prey to the insidious accusations, and even when he met with Russert to address the charges, he was never disparaging of anyone.
The verbal rocks that are thrown are meant to cripple, crush, and conquer. But do you see Mr. Bush using those tactics? They want Bush to burn. Doesn’t the opposition make you want to join hands and sing God Bless America?
So, it’s a miracle he’s even in a dead heat after weeks of being denigrated. By the sound of the “hissing,” I thought he would be at least 20 points behind. Way to go, Mr. President, hang in there with your kindness and patience. I pray your compassion will be the winning element in this campaign. God Bless You, George Bush.
It’s disturbing to hear John Kerry tearing the president down by inferring that he (Bush) once again lied to us in his interview with Russert. Kerry said, “He told us Saddam HAD weapons, and now he tells us he had only the capability to produce weapons.”
The president said he believed Saddam DID have weapons, and at the least, he certainly had the ability to produce them. Mr. Kerry, is this your premise for calling the president a liar? Sir, if there was the least chance that Saddam Hussein MIGHT have had weapons, I’m grateful to a president that took action to check it out, especially when our inspectors had been turned away so many times.
I don’t know what tree limb hit Kerry in the head, but we all know Saddam HAD weapons. And we understand now that they are gone. There are none in Iraq.
That doesn’t mean, however, there are none in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia. Or that they could have been moved while we were running all over the world trying to convince the United Nations to give us permission to go in and find them for ourselves.
Mr. Kerry, if you had a cancerous growth on your body, and the doctor said we better remove it soon or it could pose a danger to your LIFE, wouldn’t you go in and have it removed immediately? Okay, so you want a second opinion, but do you need seventeen (resolutions) to feel certain the first doctor was right and it needed to be done.
Mr. Kerry, no doctor can be 100% sure he’s right . . . you have to go in there and find out if it’s a cancer or not, and then you try to get as much of it as possible before it spreads further.
Maybe I’m missing something here, but I believe Saddam Hussein was a CANCER and I also believe he had weapons as Mr. Bush said, and I also believe with as much time that was spent running around to all the “doctors” to get a consensus, that we used precious time allowing weapons to be moved.
These terrorists are playing us against each other. We’re falling right into their trap. Everyone seems to be upset that we had intelligence before 9/11of terrorists plotting to commit heinous acts against the American people, but now that I see how these politicians play games with my life, I realize we would have taken months to decipher that intelligence.
We would have laughed at George Bush had he exhorted us to clear the streets of New York (i.e. stop the subways, rid the skies of airplanes, evacuate all buildings . . . absolutely no one in Manhattan).
But we had to see 3000 people killed before our eyes to believe something was wrong. And now we can’t seem to remember what that day did to our president who didn’t get the intelligence he needed; and now you say that whatever Intel there is, it can’t be trusted anyway. So, we may surely die if we’re not willing to listen to anything but perfectly accurate intelligence.
Wow, I feel safe. If we keep setting up committees to get to the bottom of things, we’re going to all find ourselves at the bottom of another fallen building in our own home towns. Or maybe we’ll be burying 300,000 of our own people in mass graves from the effects of chemicals. I’d rather take action as this president has done, than to be sorry later, or better yet, dead.
I’m sure if “President Kerry” were to have gotten information of threats before that same terrorist attack of 9/11, he would have wanted to talk to these murderers and exhaust efforts to make peace with them before they hit us.
You folks drinking the Kerry Kool-Aid better wake up and smell the roses, because if we continue to wait until our intelligence is 100% accurate, any one of us could be the victim of another high-jacked plane headed into a skyscraper.
As much as you’ve worried about the 500 men and women who lost their lives protecting us erroneously, you might want to consider the 40,000 terrorists here in the United States who are waiting for just the right moment.
Isn’t it amazing with all the talk of these terrorists here in our midst, that they’ve not taken the opportunity to kill more of us. Don’t you wonder what’s kept them from acting? Could it be that we have a security system that has thwarted several of their attempts, but I guess that would be too gracious of us to concede that point, wouldn’t it?
Welcome to the political arena . . . it’s all a game, and this half-time show could kill us.
