If Only Kofi Annan Was A White Guy…
By Brian Yates (02/02/03)
Well now the anti-war bandwagon – or rather, the rainbow colored VW minivan – includes Nelson Mandela, who accused President Bush of wanting to “plunge the world into a holocaust.” Mr. Mandela, the former president of South Africa and a man widely respected around the world for his work to end racial inequality, also went on to accuse Bush of being after oil and being racist. (You know, this sounds like most Congressional Democrats…accuse Bush of being after evil oil and then throw in the race card.)
Mandela, who spoke last week at the International Women’s Forum, did forget to mention Trent Lott though. No word yet on whether DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe revoked part of his speaking fee for failing to remember key parts of the playbook.
Mandela claimed that Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair are “undermining” the past works of the United Nations by taking a hard line. He went on to say that, “They do not care. Is it because the Secretary-General of the United Nations is now a black man?” Maybe this thought has slipped past Mandela in his old age (he is now 84-years old) but quite possibly they do not care because the Secretary-General of the United Nations is seemingly happy to allow Saddam Hussein to continue to just run him over. Resolution 1441 is the 17th U.N. Resolution against Iraq, and the 17th to be met with indifference from the Iraqi leader. Now the U.N. wants another resolution; hey maybe 18’s the charm! It doesn’t have anything to do with Kofi Annan’s color; it has everything to do with Kofi Annan’s incompetence.
Folks, George W. Bush and Tony Blair realize what these peaceniks do not: Saddam Hussein is not someone to be trusted. As the president so eloquently stated during his outstanding State of the Union, dictators such as Saddam are not in the habit of “politely putting us on notice before they strike.” When they get the chance they strike. But to get the liberals on board with Bush, Saddam would have to nuke Manhattan. And even then you’d have several people who would blame the United States for getting attacked.
Of course, some liberals are more concerned with SUV’s then terrorists and vicious dictators. You have Adriana Huffington’s Detroit Project which runs commercials claiming that every time you fill up your SUV, you fund another of Osama bin Laden’s training camps. (You know, liberals are a funny people. You can single out drivers of SUV’s all you want, but if airport security screeners search a higher percentage of middle-aged Arabs than they do little old ladies they want to slap you with a lawsuit.) The Detroit Project; however, is topped by Pete Singer, Princeton professor and wacko extraordinaire. Singer writes in the October 10, 2002 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education this piece of liberal bunk:
“Consider two aspects of globalization. First: planes exploding as they slam into the World Trade Center. Second: the emission of carbon dioxide from the exhaust of gas-guzzling SUVs. One brought instant death, left unforgettable images that were watched on television screens all over the world.”
“ The other makes a contribution to climate change that can be detected only by scientific instruments. Yet both - planes flying into the World Trade Center and the emissions of SUVs - are indications of the way in which we are now one world, and the more subtle changes to which SUV owners unintentionally contribute will almost certainly kill far more people than the more visible aspect of globalization and planes flying into the World Trade Center."
This guy is saying that if you drive an SUV, then you’re worse than any of the 9/11 terrorists. This is sick! I mean is there any wonder as to why our school system is in the toilet? This is the wonderful world of academia, my friends.
These people think we’re after Iraq because we want their oil. Mandela says that Bush wants Iraq’s oil “because Iraq produces 64 percent of the oil in the world. What Bush wants is to get hold of that oil.” The fact that Iraq produces only five percent, not the 64 percent he claims doesn’t seem to bother him. And who’s lying to the world? It’s not Bush lying to the people, it’s all these people in the anti-war movement.
